"Here you go, the stuffed olives are excellent." Maggie stepped up beside him with a small plate. "Thanks." Derek took some olives and adjusted his position on the couch. Of both her mother and grandmother, Derek was most comfortable with Maggie. Ruth had eyed with an air of curiosity and watched him, while Maggie had been more friendly. The looks Derek got from both women though made him believe that he was to be expected. He was seated in the sitting room of Pearl Grandmother's house, making labored conversation with them, and it was perfectly clear to him that they were not quite surprised that he had come.
