There were not so many guests about the house when she had arrived earlier, apart from those who had arrived at the same time as herself. But she concluded that it was probably because most of them would be resting from their long journey to the country. She herself needed all the rest she could get though she didn't get any, Rue and Elle had come to knock on her door after an hour and a half of her arrival. They must have arrived after her, Pearl guessed, because had they already been in the house when she came, they would have sought her out sooner.
