After finally get our strength back and cleaning ourselves up. An enchanting hot shower together almost caused our bedroom activities to reignite. But we held ourselves back. She because she wanted to get back to work and discover how the pack business had been going in her absence. I couldn’t contain my pride as I watched her head off. So confident and self-assertive. Watching her grow from a shy, unhappy and reserved girl into a strong and vivacious woman was inspiring.
I headed off to talk to my father. The way that Cecelia had been behaving and speaking was unacceptable. And while business and personal should be kept separate, I had realised that business had not been going well and while our finances were keeping their company afloat, they were doing nothing to solve their internal problems. They were just siphoning funds off us like leeches.
Walking into the Alpha’s office, I see his Beta, Cam’s dad taking paperwork and notes to help update Maddy on new business. I give him a nod as he moves past me and walks out the door. My Dad stares at me with a complicated smile. “I’m not ready to be a grandfather yet son. So maybe try to hold off a little? Atleast until after the wedding?” I can’t help the embarrassed flush that rises up my face. “Dad", I can’t help but complain. I give myself a shake. “I came here to talk to you about some problems Maddy and I have been having because it also will effect the packs financial future.”
Bael's face transforms into his serious Alpha in charge expression. “Tell me everything".
I sit down at his desk and inform him of everything that has been happening. How Cecelia bullied and hit my mate. Her delusions about a future where we are together. The lies she told that kept my mate from my side. “I know things with her family's company have been going down hill for a while. Year’s actually. And out of loyalty, our pack has stayed firm and kept them afloat. Hoping that they will resume running smoothly. But I think it’s time to cut our loses. Considering their behaviour towards us along with the wasteful and lazy attitude they have had towards work, I just think things need to stop.”
Dad goes silent as he contemplates his decision. I watch his eyes flicker between wolf and human and his desire to protect the pack and seek justice for everything that has happened mixes with the cold reality of the financial decision he needs to make. “I think it is time that they realise we are not a bank that they can continuously withdraw from and that we are not a life preserver. I will talk to our lawyer and business division and we will handle the separation of pack business from their company. Without us keeping their heads above water, I doubt they will be able to keep the lights on for more than a few months.”
He picks up the phone and gets to work while I walk out the door to find my mum and start getting the wedding preparations started. I also need to get our home built and ready. The lake is our special place. It was on our land and close to the rest of the pack. So I thought it would be a perfect spot to start our lives together. With the go ahead from my parents and a great team of werewolves that had the skills and routine down pat. We got started and actually completed construction quite quickly. Mum And Maddy had short work of the wedding plans and Michael had been visiting frequently to offer his advice. I was concerned initially that I still had not met my mate's parents. But after discussing it with the siblings, we came to an agreement that it wasn’t really necessary. They were now working overseas and hadn’t even factored their children into the decision. It had been months since they had been heard from and Michael didn't seem ambivalent about the situation. They had both accepted that their parents were more interested in each other than anyone else and just were not really a part of their life. Watching their acceptance of the reality they were experiencing made me decide that I would discuss with Maddy about telling Mike about me, about the pack. I want him to be a part of our family. He already is a part of it.
A month flew by with discussions on flowers and food and a multitude of other necessities left me feeling overwhelmed by the entire experience. However, with a Luna and a future Luna taking charge, everything was moving so smoothly that I decided to go for a drive and run some errands that I had been putting off.
After getting everything done and heading back to my car, I was ambushed by a flustered and angry Cecelia.
