Dominick
“it’s her. Mate.”
“what? Who?” Cameron asked, looking around. Following after Dom as they went into class.
He watched his best friend at future alpha stare at the girl sitting in the back corner, staring out the window. “oh, you mean no-man-duh. “
Dom growled at his beta. “sorry. I meant Amanda. It was a mistake.”
Dom looked back at her. “so. Why did you call her that?”
Cam chuckled. “you really don’t pay attention to anyone, do you? She has no friends, and has never had a boyfriend. The girls call her that. As in she cant get a guy to like her. So no man, duh. “
Dom frowned, then smiled. “so that means that I will be my mate's first and only. “ The proud and satisfied look on his face made Cam roll his eyes and feel a little sick. Dom may be his best friend, but his parents had definitely told him the mate story a few too many times.
Cam turned to Dom, “she's human". They both looked back at her, trying to figure out what they should do about this discovery.
Amanda.
Why were Cam and Dom staring at her? She untucked her hair so it fell forward as a glossy shield, protecting her from their gaze. She then realised that they were walking over. Dom sat next to her with Cam in front. They surrounded her. She felt a nervous feeling in the pit of her stomach. They had always ignored her before, if they started joining in with everyone else, life would become hell.
Dom leaned over and tapped on her desk. “hi". She glanced over and froze as his face lit up in the most gorgeous smile she had ever seen. His face alone was breathtaking. When he smiled, it was heart stopping. She signed to herself. What are you thinking Maddy? Don’t think about him. Your become a drooling mess and that will definately be the end of you.
“umm, hi. Do you need help with your homework or something?”
Dom got a surprised look on his face. But it passed in a flash as he let out a small laugh. “nope. Just saying hi. And was going to see if you were busy after school? Thought maybe we could hang out?”
Maddy just stared at him with a quizzical look on her face. Her head tilted to the side. She watched him shuffle in his chair a little and realised, she had been staring at him and he actually seemed... nervous about her response. “Why?”
Dom leaned forward, and brushed her hair behind her ear. “I just want to get to know you.”
She took a deep breathe. You know what? I only have a few months left at this place. Even if this is a prank or just him being bored. This will be a memory I will have forever. “ok. Do you have anything in mind?”
His face lit up again as if he was really happy that she said yes. “ I know this great place near the woods. Their is a lake and it’s just really pretty. I was hoping I could take you there.”
She nodded as the teacher walked in. She turned back to the front and noticed Cam give Dom a thumbs up. She felt her heart tremble. Please don’t let this be a mistake.
The rest of the day went by quickly. Moving from class to class, Dom was always watching her. Almost as if he was afraid she would disappear from his sight. He didn’t s anything else to her, but she could feel his eyes on her. Always. She thought it would feel creepy, but it just made her feel.... safe. She had no idea why. Today was the first time he had spoken to her, so for her to feel like his attention was right and comfortable shocked her. Was there something wrong with her? Maybe she was getting sick.
As the final bell rang, she realised that for once, nobody had harassed her. No snickering comments about her weight. The way she dressed. No ‘accidental’ knocking her into the lockers. Was everyone having an off day? As she walked out the front door, she saw Cam, Dom and the rest of his group hanging out by their cars. As if he knew she was there, Dom's head turned and he waved at her. As she walked over, The guys all suddenly got into their cars and drove away. Like he had given them all some kind of secret sign to leave them alone. “Was it something I did?” She said with a small smile as she stopped in front of him. He looked at her with a slightly confused look. “your pack. They all bolted the moment I came over.”
“why did you say pack?” Dom asked, with a strange expression. “because you guys are always together and just have this energy about you all. Total alpha group. Like wolves or something. “ she chuckled. “or something", she heard his say under his breath. As she was about to ask what he meant by that, he opened the passenger door. “my lady". She smiled, shook her head and then got in his car. She shut the door behind her and jogged around to the driver seat.
Dom
He kept trying to figure out what he should say. Should he tell her what he was, what they were straight away? He being human meant he had to change all his plans. He thought the moment he met his mate, he would claim her and they would move in together. No fuss or explanation needed. But now... As his thoughts whirled around his head, they arrived at their destination. He jumped out the car and jogged around to open the door for her. The shy smile on her face made him clench the door so he wouldn’t grab her and kiss her. He took a deep breathe. He will have to get her to accept him quickly, because honestly, he didn’t know how long he could hold out. She was gorgeous. And smart. As he had watched her throughout the day, he realised that she was amazing. He had no idea why anyone would have anything bad to say about her. She was..... everything.
He reached out and held her hand. “this way", he said as he pulled her over to a small dirt pathway through the trees. His thumb stroked the back of her hand a few times and he gave a quick glance to her face, making sure she was ok.
Maddy felt this tingling warmth travel from where their skin met. It wasn’t pins and needles. It felt so..... She couldn’t figure out what it was. She just knew she wanted that feeling to go on forever.
After a short walk, the trees opened up to the most stunning view she had ever seen. Crystal clear water. The sunlight shimmering off the surface making it look like there were fireworks in the water. She couldn’t contain the gasp of pleasure as she stared at the magical sight.
She laughed “ it’s incredible".
Dom stared at her joyful face “yeah. Incredible.”
He pulled her hand gently and they walked over to a pretty little pavilion. It was white with a dark grey tiled roof. There were massive pillows a few blankets piled to one side. It was obvious that people frequently came here to enjoy the water or even just the view.
Dom spread a blanket out and tossed a few of the pillows around so they would have a comfy place to sit and relax. She watched his biceps flex and felt a warmth in between her legs. She clenched her knees together for a second before giving herself a quick shake and moving to help him. As she brushed past him, she thought she heard him give a sniff. She shook her head. Don’t be weird. She said to herself.
