Weeks rushed by quickly in a haze of work and school and without noticing it had been a month since orientation. I liked to keep busy and was grateful for the full schedule. It kept my mind off other more unpleasant things, like last week when I’d woken up in the garden covered in blood and dirt. My hair was knotted with bits of blood dried in, as I shakily picked myself off the ground and turned around I saw with disgusted where the blood had come from. A large goat was lying five feet away; its stomach was torn open. I stared at its poor little face, there were no pieces missing, I had killed the creature for fun and not sustenance.
