Chapter 31 - 1304 Lois sat by the river, immersed in private thoughts. Theodore would usually walk her home after Mass, but today he had pretended not to see her. She was stung, for he had walked home with Maria and her younger sister, Christina, instead. He was not as handsome as Nicholas, Lois contemplated. But he was able to bedazzle when he so chose and the two young women had giggled all the way home. It had been six months since Nicholas’ last visit for his mother’s funeral.
