Chapter 59 - 1306 The sun was almost in mid-sky when Theodore and his entourage reached Potamia, drunk on a recently gained sense of dignity and self-esteem. They had wagered the impossible and came back invincible. The word of their arrival spread in the small village in no time, and all the serfs assembled outside the tiny Orthodox chapel to welcome their heroes. Theodore reined in Julius, his gaze scanning the small crowd for Lois. Their eyes met, and he reached her in two long-legged strides. She smiled widely, relieved he was unharmed, and his heart leaped with hope. The gathered peasants around them celebrated with collective pride and euphoria. “Kiss her! Kiss her!” some of the men teased them. Theodore was not sure he could read Lois’ face and planted a quick kiss on her lips.
