Chapter 47 - 1306 By the time Lois had finished sewing her new dress with the woolen cloth Nicholas had bought for her, her face looked as fresh as ever. Alone in his chamber, she tried it on and brushed her long hair. She looked at herself in the mirror, bringing to mind last night’s dinner: the way his gaze lingered on her and how his hand brushed against hers when they both reached for the loaf of bread or how his leg casually touched hers under the table. Her lips curved into a smile. She sighed. What was she thinking? She would have to leave any day now. “It’s beautiful,” Nicholas said, standing in the doorway and marveling at the dark curls cascading over her shoulders. Lois whirled around, blushing as if he could read her mind. “Thank you… How long have you been standing there?”
