Lois raked the leaves from the porch, allowing herself a moment to take in the sweet scent of orange blossoms. She had a busy day ahead and she had planned it with care, the day she would tell Nicholas she was with child. Another moon had passed with no trace of her flux. She placed her palms on her still flat belly gently. She would tell him at supper tonight. She had given Jacob permission to visit his sister so that they could have the place entirely to themselves.
A reminiscing smile sprouted on her lips. Nicholas only needed to look at her from the far end of the room with that familiar gaze to trigger stirring sensations, almost unbearable in their intensity.
