PRESENT TIME
She had lived on Earth for a very long time but this is her first time to attend school... Well, part of her bucket list.
She spent most of her time travelling around the world, studying every single living creature she could find and exploring every corners of the world, if only the world has a corner...
But like any beautiful thing, there is always an ugly side. As for Earth, its ugly side is the humans who only know how to destroy and abuse. They are driven by love for power and greed, and they never changed up to this day.
If it weren't only for them, this is a perfect place for the little Ezeleths's field trip. And she would teach them everything she knew and will let them stay here and learn more. But she's afraid that these people will only corrupt the little Ezeleths's innocent minds, therefore, she is not teaching them how to minimize and control their energy to be able to fit inside this planet.
How wonderful it would have been if she were to bring them here and make a tour before becoming queen!
With her coronation fast approaching, leaving Earth for good saddens her. How time flies...
While she's immersed in her thoughts, a pair of eyes are secretly gazing at her, studying every facial expressions she's doing.
'What is she thinking? Heh, what a weirdo...', he said to himself.
"Mr. Dacre, would you mind sharing what's with your seat mate's face?"
Ralph was startled when his professor called his attention. He quickly looked away at the peculiar girl who's mind is still in other dimension.
"Pa... Pardon ma'am?", he asked politely with a hint of nervousness.
"I'm asking why you're staring at your seat mate. What, are you interested in her?"
His face reddened from embarrassment. He's not only revealed to be not listening to the lecture, he's also caught glancing at the annoying woman. Fortunately, she is not paying attention, otherwise he will be more embarrassed.
A few of his classmates laughed while Carrice raised an eyebrow, feeling irritated at the blue-haired girl who is drawing attention since their first class.
"No ma'am, I-", Ralph wasn't able to finish what he's about to say because their professor already interrupted him.
"Nevermind, just answer this question.", the professor whose name is Barbara Simmons said.
"Okay.", he answered in a low voice.
"What do you think is the most important scientific discovery?"
He thought for a while before answering.
"Well for me, I think it's the vaccines."
"Elaborate.", his professor simply commanded.
"Because vaccines have been helping people until now, especially the infant who are most vulnerable to diseases.
Like for instance, the smallpox. It was once a deadly disease, claiming millions of lives a year, but thanks to the vaccine discovered by British doctor Edward Jenner, it helped the world eradicate this virus."
"Good point. You may take your seat.", Barbara said with a blank expression.
With that, he sighed in relief. Good thing he loves reading about science. He sat with a smile.
The professor scanned the room and looked for another student to answer the same question. A neat and cute looking guy wearing eyeglasses caught her attention.
"You. What's your name?", she pointed at him.
"I'm Zoren Trekker.", he answered with a low voice and a gorgeous smile.
A few girls swooned over him because he looks like a K-pop idol.
"Okay Mr. Trekker, my question is the same, what do you think is the most important scientific discovery?"
"For me it's the Internet. Because... ", Zoren's explanation was cut when Laith, his seatmate-s***h-best friend intervened.
"... It gave way to easier access to porn.", he blurted. Except for Teague who's mindless of what's going on, everyone burst out laughing, including their teacher which also surprised them.
"Shut up!", Zoren angrily reprimanded his naughty classmate.
"Oh my God, there's Mia Khalifa!", Laith exclaimed while pointing at the open door, making everyone look at the direction where his pointer finger was.
Realizing it was a prank, they laughed again with Laith having the loudest one.
"Okay, that's enough...", their professor said and they all became quiet.
"You may continue your explanation now.", Barbara looked at Zoren.
"Well as I was saying, the Internet for me is the most important because it has helped people connect wherever they are without waiting for too long, unlike before, you have to wait several days or weeks, even months if overseas, for you to receive a letter from a loved one. More importantly, it made vital informations readily available whenever we need them and that equals to convenience.", he explained with confidence.
"Well said.", the teacher while nodding her head.
He sat down after hearing his professor's feedback and secretly nudged his elbow on Laith's rib that he just laughed at.
"How about you, Miss absent-minded?", she pointed her opened hand to Teague.
"Why aren't you paying attention? What is going on with your mind?", Barbara asked, feeling a little angry because two of her students are not listening to the discussion.
"I'm sorry, I was a bit distracted.", she honestly replied.
"I have a question."
"Yes ma'am...", she said, waiting for her teacher's incoming interrogation.
"Is blue the warmest color?", she asked mockingly, pertaining to Teague's hair color that reminded her of a movie with that title.
Half of the students chortled.
After pondering for a few seconds, she got her Professor's point. She's making fun of her hair.
'Why do you guys hate my hair?', she wanted to say it out loud but it would be rude to do so. However, she answered the question in a not-so-pleasant manner.
"In the color wheel, it is not. But for the stars, it is."
"Are you a star?"
"Huh?", she was stupefied with her teacher's sudden and unexpected question. She almost lost her composure.
"Wh..what do y..you mean by th..that?", she stammered.
Professor Simmons laughed at her reaction.
"Why are you stammering? What, are you really a star?"
"Nah, she's far from being a celebrity. I haven't heard her name.", Carrice interfered.
"Ah... Haha.. ", Teague let out a nervous laugh.
"Of course. I am not a celebrity. I don't fit in their circle.", she was relieved to know that they have different concept of the word star in their heads.
"Alright. Let's go back to the question. What do you think is the most important scientific discovery?"
"Definitely anesthesia.", she answered without thinking.
"Explain."
"Well, we all don't want to feel pain right? Sadly, it's inevitable, so we take medicines to alleviate it. But just imagine you need to undergo a process that needs a certain part of your body to be opened or stitched, how painful would that be without anesthesia?"
Everyone fell silent and thought about the dreadful idea of undergoing surgery without anesthesia.
She continued. "Millions of people experience accidents that needs surgery, be it minor or major. Can you visualize how terrifying that is for the patients and how difficult that is for the surgeons?" "Take the gun shot for example, if someone shoots you at the back and the bullet penetrates one of your lungs... ", she wasn't able to finish her explanation-turned-speech because she heard their frightened reactions.
She nodded to show that she understands them.
"Yes. The procedure will be one hundred percent, horrifying. The idea of being cut open while you're wide awake is simply gruesome and so ridiculously painful, it'll make you think it's better to die than extend your life through surgery. "
"HoLaith sh*t! Yes, I'd better die.", Laith commented while nodding with a face full of fear. And everyone seems to have the same thought.
"Nicely put.", her teacher said with a smile and continued with the discussion.
On the other hand, Carrice secretly casted a sharp glance at Teague.
'Feels like a worthy opponent. She's competent enough.", she said to herself while smirking at the foolish-looking girl who is currently listening to the professor with a smile.
