19. Call in the Experts

I could hardly believe it. When Mina asked me out to prom, I hadn’t put any serious thought into going. Sure, I’d have liked to go, but I’d been so sure that Mina wouldn’t want to that I’d barely entertained the thought of asking her. I’d resigned myself to being home on prom night, maybe alone, maybe with Mina. I’d hear about how awesome or lame it was on the next school day, and either way I’d probably have regretted not going, but I’d deal with it.
Instead, we were going together on what was, effectively, a date.
I wasn’t speechless when she asked me, but I was close to it, because in what world should this have happened? I’d been trying to get her to live a life that didn’t just revolve around Splinters, and I was hoping that I’d get to be a part of it,
