My cheeks hurt from the effort it took to keep my smile firmly in place. I was not going to let anyone know how… I didn’t even know what emotion I was, but it was not happy.
I should have known Finley would invite Hudson to her thanksgiving party. She said it was going to be family and a few friends, and insisted I come with the boys. I tried to say no, but we both knew I had no other plans and she was my boss. I couldn’t say no to my boss without a good reason.
So, we went. My boys were excited to see the inside of MacKellar Estate. I was, too, but it held a lot less appeal for me than it did for my boys. I knew how quickly something could be ripped away from a person, and financial security was definitely one of those things.
