CHAPTER 3: CHAINS OF DESTINEY

877 Words
The chains were cold against her wrists, biting deep into her skin as two guards dragged her into the throne room of the cursed Alpha King. The iron wasn’t ordinary—it pulsed faintly, etched with runes that dampened her strength and dulled her wolf. Luna tried to wrench free, fury burning through her veins, but the enchantment held. The vast chamber smelled of smoke and iron, its walls carved with dark sigils that whispered of power and decay. Torches guttered as if even fire feared this place. At the far end of the room, upon a throne of black stone, sat the Alpha King himself. He was larger than any wolf she had ever seen in human form, his presence swallowing the air, his gaze colder than steel. Shadows clung to him like armor, coiling around his frame as though alive. His eyes glowed with a piercing crimson, but beneath the terror of them, there was something else—something dangerous, familiar. Luna’s chest tightened. The bond flared. Sparks danced across her skin, hotter than the chains biting into her flesh. Her wolf howled within, desperate to break free, desperate to reach him. Her lips curled back in defiance. “So, you’re the monster whispered about in every pack.” The cursed Alpha King. His jaw tightened at her words, but instead of anger, amusement flickered in his eyes. He leaned forward, his voice low and lethal. “And you are the savage wolf born of blood and moonlight.” The one fate dared to chain me. Luna spat at the ground, ignoring the way her pulse raced. “I’ll never submit to you.” You’ll get nothing from me. He rose from his throne with the grace of a predator. Each step echoed, and the shadows followed him like loyal hounds. When he stopped before her, towering and merciless, the scent of him hit her—dark pine, iron, and smoke, mingled with something that called to her soul. His hand lifted, brushing against the mark on her wrist. It burned beneath his touch, glowing faintly. Luna jerked away, but the bond tethered them, pulling her closer even as she resisted. “You feel it too,” he murmured, his voice a rough caress. The bond. You can fight me, savage wolf, but fate is not so easily denied. Her heart slammed against her ribs. She wanted to tear him apart. She wanted to surrender to him. Both urges warred within her, tearing her in two. “Never,” she hissed. “I’d rather die than be yours.” His eyes darkened, shadows curling higher as if answering his rage. For a moment, the curse etched into his being pulsed across his skin like cracks of obsidian fire. Then his voice dropped, dangerous and certain: You are mine, whether you accept it or not. Together, we will either end this curse—or drown in it. The words hung between them like a sentence of doom. Luna opened her mouth to snarl back, but before the air could carry her fury, the walls of the throne room shuddered. The torches extinguished. Darkness rushed in, thick and suffocating. The guards tensed, but it was too late. A violent blast tore through the chamber, hurling stones and fire into the air. Figures cloaked in shadows emerged, their eyes burning with unnatural light. They moved like living smoke, their weapons dripping with cursed energy. “Enemies,” the Alpha King growled, his voice shaking the ground. His power surged, shadows lashing outward, slamming into the intruders. But more kept coming, pouring through the cracks of reality like a plague. Luna strained against her chains, fury igniting. Her wolf clawed to be unleashed. Even weakened, she could feel the raw danger of these creatures. A cloaked figure stepped forward, their voice carrying with chilling clarity. “So it is true The savage wolf has been bound.” Their gaze fixed on Luna, and though their face was hidden, she felt the weight of their recognition. “The girl born of blood and moonlight.” The Alpha King’s shadows whipped around him, ready to strike. “You will not touch her.” The figure laughed, the sound like shattering glass. You protect her, but you do not understand her. She is the key. Her blood is the only thing that can break the curse that binds you. The words froze the room. Luna’s breath caught, her heart slamming against her ribs. The Alpha King stilled, his crimson gaze snapping toward her. “What do you mean?” he demanded, his voice deadly. The enemy raised a blade carved from night itself, pointing it at Luna. “Her blood will end the curse, yes." But not while she lives.” The floor seemed to tilt beneath her. Every instinct screamed to deny it, to fight, but deep inside, her wolf shivered. Something about the words rang with terrible truth. The Alpha King’s roar shook the chamber, shadows exploding outward in a storm of fury. He moved to shield her, even as the mark on her wrist blazed with fire, binding her fate tighter to his. And Luna realized with bone-deep dread that destiny was not offering her a choice at all.
