After leaving that party, I couldn’t stop thinking about Daniel. His smile, his gaze, and the note he left me—“Looking forward to seeing you again, Daniel.” These memories lingered in my mind, as if something was beginning to sprout inside me.
To my surprise, three days later, I actually received a call from him. Yes, a billionaire personally calling me. The feeling was both surreal and wonderful.
“Elia, this is Daniel. I hope I’m not being too forward or interrupting your work.”
When I heard his voice, my heartbeat quickened, and I tried to keep my tone as calm as possible. “No, of course not. I’m happy to hear from you.”
Daniel on the other end chuckled lightly, as though sensing my nervousness. “In that case, I have a small request—would you join me for dinner tonight? We had a great conversation at the party last time, and I feel like we have a lot in common.”
His words carried an honesty and natural ease that made me relax. I hesitated for a moment, but my curiosity and excitement won out.
“Of course, how could I refuse an invitation from Daniel Black?” I tried to cover up my unease with humor.
“Great!” he replied, a hint of amusement in his voice. “I’ll pick you up at 7.”
After hanging up, I stood in front of the mirror for a while, lost in thought. Why was Daniel, a billionaire, interested in me, an ordinary girl? What did he want from me? But all my doubts soon turned into anticipation. I spent twice as much time getting ready as usual, trying to look natural but still appropriate.
At 7 PM, I heard the sound of a car engine outside. Through the window, I saw a black sedan, and Daniel stepped out from the driver’s seat, standing by the car, waiting for me. His suit was immaculate, and he stood with an air of elegance and confidence.
“You’re more punctual than I imagined,” I said with a smile as I walked towards him, trying to hide my racing heartbeat.
He smiled back, slightly, and opened the car door for me. “For me, time is everything.”
“Is that so? Then why waste your precious time on a date with someone like me, an ordinary person?” I teased, but deep down, I was curious about his answer.
Daniel looked at me, his gaze thoughtful, as if he was being sincere. “Maybe because ‘ordinary’ is a rare and precious thing.”
His words caught me off guard, and I wanted to ask more, but his subsequent smile interrupted my thoughts. I decided not to press further and got into the car.
We arrived at a restaurant located on the outskirts of the city. The lighting was soft and warm, with no flashy decorations, creating a homely ambiance. The waiter led us to a corner by the window, where the night view outside blended perfectly with the atmosphere inside the restaurant.
“This place is special,” I couldn’t help but say. “Someone like you, I didn’t expect you to like such a simple place.”
He smiled faintly and nodded. “This was a place my parents and I used to visit when I was a child. My father taught me many things here, especially to cherish the simple and beautiful things in life.”
I listened intently, imagining what he must have been like as a child. There seemed to be a gap between the young Daniel and the successful billionaire he was now, a gap filled with untold stories.
He suddenly looked at me and smiled. “Elia, tell me your story. Last time, you mentioned you’re a designer, but you seem to have a deeper passion for design.”
I nodded, feeling a sense of connection. “I loved drawing when I was younger, and later I realized that design is another form of expressing beauty. I enjoy the layout of spaces, the coordination of colors, and these things give me a unique sense of satisfaction.”
He nodded thoughtfully, clearly paying attention to my words. We continued talking about our lives, interests, and experiences. Daniel was nothing like the aloof and serious person I had imagined. On the contrary, he seemed genuinely interested in what I was saying, occasionally asking for more details, which made me feel like I was being taken seriously.
By the time dinner ended, the restaurant had dimmed most of its lights, as if creating a private space just for us. Daniel looked at me with deep eyes, a look filled with an indescribable tenderness.
“Elia,” his voice was low and gentle, “you’ve made this evening feel special.”
I froze, not knowing how to respond. My heart raced, and my cheeks flushed slightly. A man like him, with such gentle eyes and words, was starting to pull me in, whether I realized it or not.
But just then, Daniel’s phone vibrated. He picked it up, glanced at it, and his expression shifted subtly. Though he quickly regained his smile, I caught the shadow that briefly passed through his eyes.
“I’m sorry, I might have to take you home now,” he said apologetically, putting the phone away. But a hint of unease lingered in his gaze.
I couldn’t help but feel puzzled. “Is something wrong?”
He shook his head slightly and forced a reassuring smile. “It’s nothing. Just some work matters.”
Though he said that, I could feel an unsettling tension around him. In that moment, I had a vague sense that there was a hidden shadow in his life, and perhaps, I had unwittingly become involved in it.
During the drive, he remained silent, his gaze fixed ahead as if deep in thought. I didn’t dare ask too many questions, but my curiosity grew like a burning flame, ever stronger. What was behind that phone call?
When he dropped me off at my door, his gaze was still intense, carrying a complex emotion.
“Elia, I had a wonderful time tonight,” he said softly, his voice tinged with what seemed to be a hint of reluctance. “I hope we’ll have a chance to meet again.”
“Of course.” I smiled and nodded, but inside, I had many more questions.
He waved me goodbye, watching as I entered my house, the car lights gradually fading away. Yet, I had a strong feeling that this night was not the end, but the beginning of something between us.
As I closed the door behind me, his gaze before he left reappeared in my mind. There was something hidden in that look, something I couldn’t quite decipher. I couldn’t help but wonder: What secret was Daniel hiding? And how would I, step by step, become involved in his world?
