The unexpected mate

Chapter 5 Ceremony of the fallen

I am still lying in the hospital bed with the beeping machine that still is making noise. I still hear people talking around me but I still cannot open my eyes. I have tried to move my hand and I thought that I didn't move til the man that has been sitting at my side says " she moved her hand , Carlee please come check her out." She walks in and tells the man beside me "She will move a little bit at a time , a hand here , a foot there , we will have to wait , in time she will wake up. I know you want her to wake up we all want here to wake up. We all need her." The things she said made no sense to me I didn't understand any of it , why do they want and need me to wake up , I am a nobody , no one special. I am not important for anything. Well I will just have to wait til I am not trapped in my own body. Someone comes to the door and says" Sir it is time." The man beside me leans over me and kisses me on the forehead and tells me "I will be back shortly."

I am sitting in the hospital room with the woman from the woods , it has been five days since the attack and I have not left her side , but I will have to go for the ceremony for the fallen. The attack was brutal but she is healing quite nicely , the bit on her neck is looking good and her chest and stomach are also healing quite nicely, they all still bleed from time to time.

As I am sitting there with her she moves her hand."She moved her hand , Carlee please come check her out." I ask her. She comes in and says "She will move a little bit at a time , a hand here , a foot there , we will have to wait , in time she will wake up. I know you want her to wake up we all want here to wake up. We all need her." I have not told anyone that this young woman is my mate but I guess I have give it away with how me and Adolph acted in the woods and in the clinic.

Mateo comes to the door and tells me "Sir it is time." I lean over to the young woman and kiss her on the forehead and I tell her "I will be back shortly." I go to walk out of the room but I turn and look at the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my life one last time. As I walk down the hallway I ask Mateo for any updates on the wounded and how many we lost due to the rogue attack. "Well sir we lost 50 earlier and were about 150 injured but we lost about 10 more since we came back to the pack house." Mateo tells me. We are heading to the burial of our dead. And honor our fallen senior Alpha Gabriel Allen Johnson who died while defending our pack and family.

Mateo and myself go to our rooms first to prepare ourselves for the ceremony to come. We are on the fourth floor which has seven rooms with bathrooms attached. My room is at the end of the hall and Mateo's is the last door on the left and my mom and dad's is the last door on the right. The other four rooms are for the children of the Alpha and Luna and the children of the beta and his mate.

We put charcoal , mud and red clay on our face as a sign of mourning as will all other members of the pack. We have finished with the ceremonial painting and I say to Mateo. "Mateo we will need to stop and get my mom luna Brooke and walk with her to the ceremony I do not want her alone right now she has lost a lot." "Yes sir we will get our Luna from her room." We stop at Luna Brookes room and knock on the door and in a few seconds she replies "I am almost done I will be out in a minute." Before long she comes out and we make our way out of the house to the field.

As we enter the field there are hundreds of pack members waiting for the Alpha and Luna. As the three of us walk to the middle of the field our pack makes eye contact with each of us. But when they make eye contact with Luna Brooke they also bow to her out of respect and honor. As we walk on into the field we see a funeral pyre. You would see a lot of wood piled cris crossed seven feet tall and 25 foot long by 25 foot wide. And at the head of the pyre there is a stand with two thrones for the Alpha and Luna to sit at while all the pack stood around the pyre. The beta would be standing to the left of the Alpha and the betas mate would be standing to the right of the Luna.

The three of us make our way to the stand and Carlee walks up with us she will be on the right side of Luna Brooke because beta Mateo has not found his mate yet. Luna Brooke and I sit down and wait a few minutes to make sure that all pack members are here before we start. As we see fewer pack members coming up we start the ceremony. I stand in front of all my pack and say " We gather on this night to honor our fallen pack members and Alpha Gabriel. It was an honor to stand beside them all in battle and in peace. They will be well missed but not forgotten. Mateo will you please light the pyre."

Mateo walks down to the pyre and lights it , as it blazes you could hear a pin drop it is so quiet all you hear is the crackling of the fire and quiet sobs of the pack members as well as a few that shifted and started howling in sorrow. It is a sad day we lost a lot of good men and women. The fire will continue to burn for hours so I dismiss the members to carry on with their day. Some will stay and mourn for a bit longer and others will carry on with their day plans. As for me I will return to the woman in the infirmary. I want to be the first thing she sees when she wakes up.

So I head back to the infirmary to where she is , to be away from her for a short time it feels like a piece of me is left with her in that room , so until I am at her side I will feel like only half a person. I come to the infirmary and open the door I walk down the hall to her room and I walk in. As I walk in I am hit with a full force of her scent , and the tension and anxiety that I had it melts away as I take in her scent. I walk to her bed and sit down in the chair beside her. I put my hand on the top of her hand and let the tingles calm me down the rest of the way. I just want her to wake up. so I can explain everything that is and will happen to her in the next week or two.
