The trapdoor creaked as Dr. Harlow lifted it, her face a pale oval in the faint lamplight. Her eyes darted over us, lingering on Adrian’s blood-soaked shirt, before softening. “He’s gone,” she whispered, though her voice carried the strain of someone who wasn’t fully convinced. “But he’ll be back.
