On day forty-one Cord found Mira in the armory and asked her to follow him. She had learned not to require explanation from Cord when he had a purpose. She followed. He led her to a section of the compound she had not been in before — a wing off the eastern residential building, stone corridor, doors she had passed without investigating. He stopped at the last door and opened it. It was an office. Modest, practical — a desk, two chairs, a window that looked east over the training yards. Bookshelves along one wall, empty. A tactical display mounted on the opposite wall, currently dark. Everything functional, nothing decorative. She looked at it. Then she looked at Cord. "This is yours," he said. "If you want it." She looked at the room again. "Damien's decision?" she said. "Mine,"
