Oluebi's POV.

983 Words
He brought a toy to the pup, food, toys, built a house, a kennel for it, bathed it, took it to the vet to check, and took care if his health, the first day, they came to the house, the pup left Loria to follow my mate all along, around the house, as if he was its owner. Loria was now a stranger to it, wagging its tail, and ears. It was a shock to everyone how he showed love to it. He carried the dog around the compound, allowed it to jump around the compound, he conversed patiently with the dog, and people made comments on his relationship with the dog, 'it is the least I, can do for my brother, caring for the dog he loved so dearly. It grew so lovingly, and brought love, and laughter into the life of the widow, it made her happy, and glad, very protective, playful, and loving, 'It is about my late brother, I, have to care for his pup, it is my humble obligation, to care for, and love it, for him. I, honor my late brother. Loria noticed his absence, she remembered how good it used to be with him, the memorable days, and the life they've spent together meant a lot to her, even if it had to be quarrels, and misunderstandings, his absence had made them worth coupling, the first time she recognised it. It was over soup, just soup. It wasn't really the food factor but the serenity, and quietness of the house, due to the absence of a significant figure in her life, their home were a time noisy, in the less heat way of mountain pack houses- wood crackling in the dwelling, boots by the outlet entrance, Eric's loud laugh, playing with the pup, backing, and carrying it from room, to room, and their pup following them all around. The walls recognised her silence, and small noise, but now every word of her voice was for anybody who cares, and who really cares? "Loria loved salty foods", Eric said jokingly, taking the bowl away from Oluebi after one bite, Loria was his late brother's wife, Oluebi shockingly looked at him, over the table, " I cooked it how you sure love it". Eric didn't even stare at her. "People do faulter" The words were easy, direct, and carefree, it gummed and stained in her ribs like frost. Loria lowered her face, carefully placing her hand on her own pup, sleeping in her lap. The baby boy had Chime's grey colored hair, and tender eyes. Members of the pack were compassionate and emotional with the boy. Eric was. Eric in particular. Oluebi told herself that every kind person should be wise at onset. When Chime died during a border intrusion, Eric brought his brother's corpse home himself. Truly they were grieved, it was as if life had come to an end, Oluebi mourned her brother-in-law, Chime was very generous, loving, and kind in his lifetime, he gave wildflowers to their pup, just to make it happy. So when Eric suggested to her that Loria, and her son should be allowed to stay with them, she gave heed without hesitation. She cleaned, beautified, and decorated the Eastern room herself, packaged the duvet neatly, and took care of the baby boy like his own when Loria found it too hard to care. ‎She did not show a strong mind, heart, or harden her heart to the memorial days' Tears of the widow. And the questions of her small boy about his dad's whereabouts. What she didn't fathom was how her position, and relevance in the home started to vanish into thin air, like a water body on earth vaporising. It was seen in little things at the onset, Oluebi became irrelevant in Eric's sleep, he didn't care when she left the room, and the house. The house was rearranged for her comfort, she liked the resting chairs near the fire, so Eric ordered Oluebi to do so. The pup loved to be cool, and quiet inside the house, so Eric ordered id be made comfortable for animals, so that their daughter can only play outside. Loria shivered at night, but Eric stayed outside "to console her". To console her Oluebi reacted, she recited the statement in her mind several times, trying to understand what it would look like if she retaliated, if her husband had gone crazy, and if Loria didn't know she was crossing a boundary. One faithful evening Eric was making a toy vorex, and a scape board, Sodear ran to him, expressing her daughter's place, and relationship to her dad praising him for his ability to make toys, and asked is it for me? He said no. One should be for me she insisted. But his heart wasn't made up to make a toy for his daughter, and wasn't going to change his mind to give her one, he said no, all for Robex. She was shocked, but she sobbed, took two heavy breaths like a pregnant woman 1, 2, and went away, went inside her room perhaps Dad would change his mind for his daughter, but he did what amazed everybody, he didn't change his mind, he did what was in his mind. It is for Robex, it is for Loria's son. 'I, watched my daughter walk away, something deeper struck my mind. ‎ The pack took cognisance, they are aware if any weak love exists between a mating bond. Some teased that he was just paying kindness to his late brother, while others, talked down on Oluebi when she showcases anger towards his actions, cold shivers running down the spine, threatened by the fatherless. ‎No one saw the real deal coming, because the truth was made irrelevant, and unnecessary things too minute to defend, and take seriously, they were things taken for granted.
