Chapter 2 Don't touch my bottom line.

1205 Words
Fanny Ives was a stand-in for the Ives family heiress, a half-open secret. She had been an orphan since childhood. When she was eleven, the Ives family heiress, Erica Ives, went missing. Because Fanny bore a striking resemblance to Erica, she was adopted. However, when Fanny turned eighteen, Erica returned, and after seven years of a comfortable life, Fanny was thrown back into her original position. The Ives family had a long-standing engagement with the Morse family. Leroy Morse was a powerful figure in Mercy City, known for his ruthless and obsessive nature. Erica Ives had no desire to marry him, so Fanny was forced to take her place. After all, she was just an adopted daughter. “Think about yourself for once…” Shannon Jagger urged earnestly. “Enough,” a deep voice interrupted, laced with obvious displeasure. Shannon jumped in surprise and looked over, her eyes reflecting a mix of infatuation and longing. Leroy Morse, clad in a black bathrobe, strode in with a commanding presence. He was tall and broad-shouldered, exuding a casual yet intoxicating allure, like a poppy flower. Leroy Morse was known as a ruthless player in the capital, distant from women, and exuding an air of cold nobility. But he was also incredibly wealthy, being the youngest man on the Forbes billionaire list and undeniably handsome. Marrying him would mean a life free from financial worries! But what did Fanny Ives have to offer? Shannon was filled with jealousy, yet her face wore a gentle smile as she addressed him, “Sixth Master.” Fanny, on the other hand, shrank back in shock, her expression one of fear as she stammered, “S-Sixth Master?” She trembled as she spoke, like a frightened rabbit. Leroy Morse's eyes flickered with an unreadable depth, and without even glancing at Shannon Jagger, he disdainfully ordered, "Get out." His voice was low but carried an undeniable authority and disgust. Shannon's face paled as she turned to Fanny Ives, struggling to say, "I'm Fanny's good friend. I can't let you hurt her like this..." "Good friend?" Leroy scoffed, a mocking smile on his lips. "What, feeling no shame seeing this bed? Want to join in?" Shannon's cheeks flushed, but there was a hint of temptation in her eyes. Leroy's expression darkened instantly. "Get lost! Disgusting!" Startled by his harsh tone, Shannon fled with red-rimmed eyes. Leroy turned his gaze, sharp as an eagle's, locking onto Fanny Ives. Fanny stiffened; she was used to his attitude, but she feigned shock, trembling as she said, "Sixth Master..." Her frightened demeanor struck a chord in Leroy's heart. He grasped her chin, forcing her face up to meet his gaze, sneering, "Since you’ve become my wife, you need to know your place. If I catch you again..." Each word was squeezed out like it was forced through clenched teeth. Fanny, her head held high against his grip, stubbornly replied, "Last night was... mmm..." Her words were cut off as his lips crashed down on hers, the kiss almost a fierce retaliation as he devoured her mouth. Fanny Ives endured the pain, tears welling up in her eyes. After a long moment, Leroy Morse finally released her, his voice low and dangerous as he warned, "Don’t play these games with me…" He rubbed his rough palm against her delicate neck, the warning clear in his tone, "You know I have a short temper, right? Don’t test my limits." Testing those limits could cost her life, couldn’t it? Fanny's eyes trembled slightly as she nodded. Leroy seemed satisfied, speaking softly as if soothing a pet, "Go wash up. Do you know what day it is today?" Today was Brentley Morse's birthday. Fanny's heart tightened. Brentley had never liked grand celebrations, but it was customary for the whole family to gather for a meal. On this day in her past life, she had foolishly embarrassed herself at the Morse family home, all because of Shannon Jagger's instigation. Looking back, she realized how naive she had been. Knowing she couldn't resist Leroy Morse, she had still believed Shannon genuinely cared for her, following her advice and opposing him at every turn. Little did she know, Shannon only wanted to see her fail and ruin her reputation. After washing up, Fanny had breakfast but found nothing in her closet suitable for the occasion. After some thought, she chose a long, bright red dress. As she stepped out, Leroy's expression soured, and he frowned in disgust, "What are you wearing?" Fanny Ives knew that Leroy Morse always looked down on her outfit, so she muttered, "It's festive." Leroy Morse scoffed, "So outdated." In her past life, Fanny had worn black and white, and Leroy had been just as critical. But back then, after a night of torment from him, Fanny had hated him deeply and shot back, "If you think I'm embarrassing you, then I won't go at all!" Leroy had no choice but to put up with her, but once they arrived at the Morse family gathering, Fanny was surrounded and scolded for attending a funeral. Leroy scrutinized her outfit but didn’t say anything further before stepping out the door. Fanny hurried to catch up with him. Johnny, the driver, was already waiting outside. Leroy instructed, "Take us to Taichenhui." Taichenhui was the most upscale shopping mall in Mercy City, no contest. Sure enough, once they arrived, Leroy pulled out his card and ordered, "Buy a complete outfit on-site. Make it quick." Fanny took the card and cautiously asked, "Aren't you coming with me?" In her past life, after she had 'cheated,' Leroy had treated her like a thief, locking her away or keeping her tied to him. The moment she showed any desire to escape, he would confine her in a dark room, where she faced endless humiliation and abuse. Now, he was letting her go buy clothes by herself? Leroy lit a cigarette and, with a smirk, replied, "You want me to accompany you to buy clothes?" Fanny quickly clarified, "I was just asking!" She quickly got out of the car, anxious that he might chase after her. But she couldn't help but glance back, only to find Leroy Morse leaning against the window, a slender cigarette pinched between his fingers. The wisps of smoke curled up, obscuring his deep-set eyes and giving him an even more enigmatic aura. As if sensing her gaze, he looked over at her. Fanny Ives's heart raced, and she swiftly turned to enter the mall. Leroy squinted slightly, almost as if talking to himself, murmuring, "Has she been more obedient today?" Having been married to him for over a month, Fanny had always disliked and feared him. He had thought that after last night, she would only grow to loathe him more and would definitely not show him any kindness. Yet today, she seemed surprisingly compliant. Johnny, the driver, also felt something was off but cleverly played along, saying, "Yeah, you know how women are. She probably just realized how good you are. "Is that so…" The man took a drag from his cigarette, letting the last syllable linger. His tone was hard to read, as he stared intently at the entrance of the mall, lost in thought.
