Chapter Six I drove right by Mark’s house. I thought about stopping to see if he was all right. His truck was there. But I kept going. My phone rang soon after. I pulled over to the side of the road. It was David. “Mom,” he said. “Where are you? You were supposed to pick me up from school.” “What? Why?” We had bought him a car as soon as he got his license so that we wouldn’t have to be there to pick him up. “The car is in the shop,” he said. “Dad reminded you.” Shit.
