The Storm Within Us

1308 Words
Dila´s POV Chaos reigned around me. If I hadn't seen it all with my own eyes, I could have sworn that a wild wolf had come through here, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. But no, the devastation had another origin. Marco, an Alpha with lycan blood, had completely lost control. At the moment, we were talking - or at least trying to - and in the next instant, his eyes turned black as night, and he simply exploded. He moved like a raging storm, smashing everything in his path before disappearing into the forest. I took a deep breath, trying not to get carried away by the chaotic scene. I knew I had to act fast. So I ignored the damage around me and focused on what I did best: magic. This time, I needed something specific, something powerful. A body domination spell. I sat down in the center of the destroyed hut, surrounded by debris, and began to mutter the incantation. My mind focused on her. So strong and yet so fragile... In the state she was in, finding a breach in her subconscious wouldn't be difficult. I felt the spell taking shape. A warm energy ran through my body as I connected with his mind. His eyes glowed like embers before dimming completely. For a moment, I thought it would be easier than I had imagined. But then something resisted. A raw, ferocious force. A she-wolf. She stood before me, imposing herself like an insurmountable wall, and her eyes were pure hostility. Even without saying a word, I knew: she didn't want me there. - Hello, how are you? - I tried to ease the tension, keeping my voice calm and controlled. The white she-wolf remained motionless, her fur shining like strands of diamonds in the invisible light. However, she didn't answer me. It just growled, warning me that I was stepping into dangerous territory. - What's your name? - I continued, without hesitation. - I'm here to help. The answer came in the form of an attack. She lunged at me with fury, but I had expected it. I retreated quickly and, before it could hit me, I cast a paralysis spell. Her body twitched for a brief moment before freezing in mid-air, stopped by my power. - You're strong, but you haven't fully awakened yet. - I murmured, watching her wild expression. But the she-wolf resisted. With a piercing howl, her spiritual force collided with my magic like a storm. A wave of energy hit me, breaking the spell momentarily and making me stagger. She was no ordinary lycan. There was something else inside her, something ancient and indomitable. I took a deep breath, feeling my own blood heat up. I concentrated again and intensified the spell. The air around us crackled, charged with electricity. The she-wolf roared, struggling against the invisible chains I conjured to immobilize her. - “Show me what you really are,” I whispered, gritting my teeth. For an instant, she froze. Something inside her wavered, and it was at that moment that I took her place. The moment I entered her mind, a flash went through my vision, showing me disconnected fragments. Shadows and voices, distorted images of an ancient war. Something was awakening in her... and it wasn't something I could control so easily. An intense chill ran down my spine as I felt a presence greater than anything I had ever faced. Something primal, older than time itself. The she-wolf wasn't alone inside that body... and the thing that shared space with her was watching me. - Who are you? - I muttered, trying to stabilize my mind. An echo reverberated through the space between us, a voice that wasn't so much a sound as an overwhelming thought. “You have no right to be here.” Before I could react, I was thrown out of the she-wolf's mind with brutal force. My body hurtled backwards, crashing into the wreckage of the hut. I gasped, feeling a metallic taste in my mouth. That wasn't normal. Not at all. It was then that I felt your presence. - You've been busy,” said a deep voice from the shadows. - You don't contact me anymore, you don't tell me anything... I didn't have to turn around to recognize him. I just closed my eyes for a moment and took a deep breath. - If I don't get in touch, it means there's nothing to be said,” I replied, keeping my posture firm. He laughed, a low, ironic sound. - That's not what it sounds like. In fact, I think there's a lot to be said. Especially about the last few days... Or about the fact that I had to do everything myself. I turned to face him. The yellowish glow of his eyes was the only detail visible in the darkness. - You shouldn't be here. This isn't your territory. If a wolf on patrol sees you, it might not end well for either of us. - If they were going to find me, they would have found me by now,” he retorted, crossing his arms. - I'm not a child, Dila. - Still, you're being reckless. He took a step forward, narrowing his eyes. - You're full of secrets. All it took was for me to help you find her for you to disappear. Always promises and more promises... And none of them kept. Do you think I'm an i***t? He moved even closer, his aura pressing against mine. - If you keep playing me, Dila, I'll find out myself what you're hiding. And trust me... when that happens, I won't be so patient. The implied threat hung in the air, thick and suffocating. He studied me, like a predator on the lookout for the slightest weakness. - I'll do my part, but you have to give me time,” I argued, trying to keep my voice steady. - None of this is simple. - Time is a luxury we don't have,” he retorted, with a dangerous glint in his eye. - Either you sort it out soon, or someone else will do it for you. His tone became more serious, almost a growl. - If you're not on my side, I'll assume you're against me. And that's not an interesting position. - Are you threatening me? - I raised an eyebrow. - I'm not just anyone. Choose your words carefully. He laughed again, but this time without humor. His gaze traveled around the destroyed hut. - I'm surprised you talk about control when you look at this... - he gestured at the shattered surroundings. - Marco is on the verge of savagery, Dila. Every second he loses himself a little more. I'm surprised he hasn't killed someone yet. Or finished you all off. I felt a shiver run down my spine. - “If you don't have anything useful to say, I suggest you leave now,” I muttered. - Our relationship can't be exposed, so you'd better go. He smiled sideways, a smile as sharp as a blade. - Don't forget your position, witch. This is all a game of interests. And on that board, only those on the King's side win. With those words, he disappeared into the shadows, but not before giving me a long, appraising look. I waited until I was sure he was gone before letting out a heavy sigh. The goddess knows that I would be lost if he found out what I was doing. It's not betrayal. It's self-protection. After all, he said so himself. On this board, only the King will survive. But I trust the Queen's strength much more. I knew he was telling the truth. But I also knew that I would never give up my game.
