Chapter 8
It's been long or felt long since Melinia has seen Liorn. She tossed her body to the other side feeling her warm spot to his cold spot. He hasn't come back since she had last seen him in the bathing chambers and it felt like an eternity. Melinia's body became stiff, wondering how his reaction would be once he returns. She had thought it highly unusual that he has thought about her feelings, what she thinks and her wants. Pulling the covers up to her face, Melinia let her lips turn upwards into a small smile.
His skin had shriveled up almost like a prune, his head was woozy, drank way too much alcohol, and he simply couldn't find his way to his own bed chamber without having the young maid mother him as he fell and staggered. "You don't look like my Melinia, my dear" He hiccupped and then chuckled a very deep throaty laugh.
Liorn touched the young girl's hair, letting the black strands brush over his fingers and down his palms. "Dearie, your hair is soft, but... my queen is be-be-ahh-you-ti-fool" He smiled then grabbed for his head as he ran into the bedchamber door frame. "Oww, why so dark?" He muttered again taking steps into the bed chamber.
The door opened to welcome him with a half-lit room, one of Melinia's candlelight, its base full of melted wax. Melinia had sat up and watched him and the maid wondering if she should take over. Liorn then again stumbled on his own feet as he looked at Melinia, her skin given off a golden glow from the candle and her hair loose and free. The maid tried to help but he shooed her away.
Her arms had grabbed his arm trying to help him and he didn't say anything to Melinia as she tried to help him to the bed. He sat on the bed and Melinia tugged on his sleeve. "You cannot do it yourself; you are far too drunk my lord, mayhaps you might end up choking yourself on the drawstrings" She commented unlacing the strings and pulling the tunic over his head. His hands didn't move neither could he breathe. There was a pause and then she looked up at him. He watched her through half lidded eyes. Right at that moment Liorn really sobered up. At their silent gaze Melinia had also unlaced his boots then another pause reached for his breeches and slid those down his muscular legs. Her eyes widened as his member had once again became enlarged and her breath left her throat.
Melinia's cheeks felt like they were burning up. All the time she has seen Liorn's body she averted her gaze instantly but this time it was in her face and she couldn't look away. Her curiosity took the best of her and she wanted to explore. Finally, Melinia looked away and returned to her side of the bed. Where had that scandalous idea come from?
Liorn sat staring at his fingers. They were so close. She was so close. Why couldn't he just grab her and finally lay with his wife?
With a sigh of disappointment Liorn crawled onto his side of the bed and looked at Melinia's shadows. He could make out the curve of her body under the thick sheets. A masterpiece. He thought to himself. She only laid an arm’s length away and only one thin gown, why couldn't he press his will on hers? It can't be that she has a say anyway. "Lio-my lord?" He heard the very silent whisper. His head shifted to the side. It was probably the most childish thing he has ever done but maybe looking face to face might break his angst, especially from this eve’s events.
Melinia heard nothing, only a slight shifting in the sheets. He may be already resting. She thought to herself. Clearing her throat, she murmured in the softest voice she could," I'm sorry my-lo-Liorn, I truly am, but I can't do what you ask of me," She paused when the fire flickered. "I believe in love, I believe in making love-please do understand. Mayhaps-mayhaps I can learn to love you. You could teach me my lord" She closed her eyes after silence greeted her. She knew he wasn't awake so no use to continue. That confession may be a promise for her to herself to not look at a person and judge them without searching for their true person. But Melinia did not want to deny him forever but she couldn't be forced to love him. Perhaps one day, Melinia will fall for the Black Heart.
Liorn lay silently, his heart pace has quickened. If he didn't hear right, she said she could love him. There was a chance! He shouted in his head. There was a chance I can make her love me! He exclaimed in his head. With a very large smile-a gesture he had not done for so long- Liorn closed his eyes and thought of ways to woo her. One day she'll be my queen and I, her King.
