Chapter 17

Chapter 17 Two months Later Melinia had a very beastly craving. Fruits and pastries made from an oversea country chef Liorn had bought from the slave trade made Melinia content and that was because the head chef made all kinds of sweets for the Queen. And all those treats made a very large womb for Melinia. In the past month Liorn had to have the dress makers re-stitch her gown to accommodate her size. She spied Liorn's small smile as he tried to mask it with a cold face. His face as always was angry or either emotionless. It was like he had cut himself off from all emotions. Melinia then started to hum to a tune she had once learned from her mother. Her mother would hum this to her every single night when she couldn't sleep. Melinia felt a hard kick to her womb, rubbing her extended belly she continued to hum. "You have a very pleasant voice" Liorn called leaning on the doorway. He said it with much less emotion in his tone. "Ah-thank you" She hesitated trying to sit all the way up with her head leaning against the headboard of the bed. Liorn walked over to her helping her up. "You should not over work your body" He said, steadying her hand and back. "I don't anything to happen to you or my babe" He mumbled. Melinia stopped moving completely. Another strong kick and she felt the cramping sensation come in quick spurts. Her stomach churned and she felt water slip down her thighs and wondered if it was possible if she had accidently let loose liquids. "Liorn..."She whispered tightening her hold on his hand squeezing it. Pain and the need to breathe filled her senses as her body felt a wave of nausea roll over and she felt the need to expel herself. He felt her tense up beneath his palm. When he tried to open his mouth to ask her what was wrong, she screamed out in agonizing pain. "M-Melinia?" Dread filled him up from his toes and stopped in his stomach. What if they harmed the babe trying to have her sit up? She groaned so hard and had the nurse rushing up with perspiration running down her temple. "My lord?" Melinia took deep breaths again with another shout. Pain. Much pain in her lower abdomen. It threatened to rip her apart as she wanted to release something that she didn’t understand. "Get the healer, use my steed and have them here immediately!" He ordered the nurse's companion. She shook her head three times then ran off. "It's coming!" Melinia cried she could feel it. The babe was coming. "Liorn!" She grabbed hold of his arm. The nurse returned with dampened towels for Melinia, one to suppress her screams so she did not swallow her tongue and another to clear the perspiration on her temples that rained down her cheeks along with her tears. "My lady, you have to breathe and push your lower body" The nurse said. "The healer is almost here, just breathe my lady" Maids rushed in and out. Carrying sheets and water. For reasons unknown to Liorn they looked as if they were enjoying the moment. It was possible that they were awaiting the arrival of the babe to lighten the dark halls. After pacing more than hundreds of time the healer finally arrived. Melinia screamed, muffled by her clenched teeth as maids wiped at her dampened forehead and they had removed her garments to leave her in a thin gown so the healer would have easier access. Another wiped the hair out of her face as it had matted itself wet to her. "We are going to have to breathe" The healer calmly spoke. Miraculously through the frantic mist of it all Melinia took deep calm breaths, there was the constant pain but the healer was helping her through it. "It hurts" Melinia cried. "Gag the queen, my lady you are going to have to push your bottom-Yes like that" The healer's hands were under the sheets feeling Melinia's untouchables for the arrival. She screamed into the wet cloth squeezing the maid’s hand with all her might. Tears rolled down her face and she felt so light headed as she briefly saw stars. Anything to birth faster. “Breathe my Queen or it will become more difficult. We need you to stay with us.” She told her. "My lord, I suggest you speak to her to keep her at ease." Liorn could see the flash of excitement in the old lady's eyes. Liorn walked to Melinia's side. She turned her head to face him. He could see the tears in her eyes as they rained down her cheeks. "You can do this Melinia, breathe, and push. Please breathe for the both of us." He whispered into her ear. God knew he couldn't breathe unless she did. He realized then and there that she was going to give him what he always yearned for. A family. He was going to be a father. And to be a family he would have to help her. Help the babe. Help himself. With a kiss to her temple he closed his eyes and for once prayed, prayed with everything he had for a safe birth. Melinia let go of the cloth in her mouth and squeezed one last time as she shouted so hard and loud, she may have shook the whole castle. There was so much clamor that it didn’t take long until a newborn baby's cry resonated throughout the whole castle. It was a female babe. There was cheers and excitement as the baby girl cried with all her might, angry at the world. She cried as if her heart was broken. They cut the connection from Melinia to the babe and wrapped her up in a bundle passing the babe to Liorn who accepted the girl almost hesitantly. He was afraid. Cheers rang as Liorn accepted the babe into his arms holding her to him. His daughter. His princess. Then as soon as the excitement came, Melinia gave another cry of pain as she felt her body shift once more. With concern, he searched her face and the healers face for any signs of trouble. What was wrong? She felt it again. The pain and need to push it out of her body. The healer turned to Melinia with concern. She checked Melinia to see if she was losing too much blood but instead, she saw dark hair. Her eyes widened in concern until she realized it. "My Lady- breathe!" She tried. The healer gave Liorn a look and he asked her what was wrong as he passed his daughter to the Midwife to go to Melina’s side. He saw what she had and his heart stopped in his throat and he dismissed a dark thought as he knew that he was the only person to have had access to Melinia. He did not believe in the supernatural and he knew that if what he was seeing was true, that night there would be two babes in the Kingdom of Fawn birthed this eve. Melinia pushed with all her might, praying to the gods in her head for all to pass quickly as she felt loose and she wanted to let it all go. She no longer heard the commotion around her and she did not care. She only wanted the pain to be over and it did not take any longer before she heard a brief cry before she let the darkness overwhelm her from exhaustion and welcomed it with open arms.
