By the time Louisa finished her shift and got back, it was already pitch black outside. The voice-activated light in the hallway had been broken for two weeks, and since management hadn't fixed it, the place was completely dark. She felt her way up the wall, her footsteps echoing through the stairwell. Just as she rounded the corner on the third floor, a whiff of cigarette smoke drifted over. "Oh, hey, look who's back." Jason Currie, the guy renting the other partitioned room, stepped out of the shadows with a half-burned cigarette between his fingers. Louisa frowned and said, "Excuse me, let me through."
