Chapter 5: Jacob's Return.

1247 Words
Two and half years later. It has been two and a half years since Walker has proposed to Iris. Walker was forced to wait, as Iris only wanted a marriage after she had finished her studies at the university. By the time she finishes her studies, she's pregnant. The marriage was conducted when she was a mouth to her child's delivery. She was happily married to Walker, but not until the past came back to haunt her. "Why is it that whenever you try to be happy, the past always comes back to haunt you and destroy the happiness you have acquired? My past was here, right now standing in my hospital room, telling me that he came back for what belongs to him, "me," such audacity!" meditating on her mind. Shocked couldn't describe what she was feeling; her mouth was dry, and she desperately tried to find something to say. It was really weird because she had a whole lot to say. "Can't you speak?" Jacob asked. After a few seconds, it felt like an hour had passed before she finally found her voice. "I am happily married, and you can't get me back because I am not yours anyway," she replied, trying to sound convincing, but who was she trying to fool? Surely not him, for he could see right through her, and he knew her like the back of his hand. He was here, the man who betrayed her and took many years of what they had and threw it away to be with an old woman because she was rich. "Are you trying to convince me or yourself? Because you sound unsure," Jacob replied with a smirk planted on his face. "Could you please leave my room? Leave now!" She screamed at him. She didn't need to convince him, for that matter. She knows she only loves Walker, and no one is going to make her second guess her feelings, not even if it was the man she once loved dearly. "I will get you back, even if it's the last thing I do. But I will leave, and remember Iris, I was the best you ever had, and I will always be the best," Jacob replied. Those were the last words he said to her before he turned to walk out of the room. He was just on his way out when he was met by Walker, who was surprised to see a man walking out of her room, not even a male nurse or a doctor. "Who was that? Is he your friend?" Walker threw the questions in her face after Jacob had left the room and was out of earshot. "No one, that is important," she replied. She could tell that he was a bit skeptical about her answer from his facial expression, but he let it go anyway. "Where were you? Where did you go?" She asked, trying to change the topic. "I was signing some documents regarding the birth of our children. I am sorry I left you; I should have been here for you when you had woken up. I would have made my mom do it, but she had left earlier." He narrated. "It's okay, Walker, you've always been there for me; you're here now," she said while smiling. Walking over to her, he kissed her on the cheek before settling down comfortably on the sofa that was beside her bed. "You had a long day yesterday; you should get some rest, Iris," Walker said, showing how much he cared for her. She laid down, laying her back down and closing her eyes. As soon as she did, her mind immediately wandered back to Jacob. "How did he know where I was after all these years all of a sudden? much less know where to find me. We haven't contacted each other since the breakup. I am a bit surprised that he showed up here after I had given birth and at this ungodly hour."She tried to get some rest, but sleep wouldn't come. "But remember, Iris, I was the best you've ever had, and I will always be the best." Jacob's words echoed through her mind. They had been together for 5 years, but she wouldn't say he was the best she ever had after what Walker did for her. The only thing that was great in their relationship was the s*x, but that didn't last long after a while when the s*x had gotten worse. Since he had found someone new, things in the relationship changed. "I need to get him off my mind and out of my head, for there is no space reserved for him in there. Walker is my only love and my family." She told herself while turning to her side, facing Walker. Looking at him, she saw that his eyes were closed and his breath had evened out, which meant that he was asleep. Studying his features, she couldn't help but smile. He was her heartbeat; he was the man she would love and always love. With him as the last person on her mind, she could feel her eyes closing down, so she succumbed to the sleepy feeling that was taking over her. "Wake up, sleepy head," Walker whispered into her ear, touching her nose. She opened her eyes and saw Walker standing in front of her with her cell phone and her two new bundles of joy, each of them in one hand. He handed her Ben, and she kissed him on the forehead, and she could see his face breaking out in a smile. His smile was beautiful, and she could see his dimples, something that he had gotten from his father. Looking at him, right away she knew he resembled Walker. He had gotten almost everything from him—his hair, nose, mouth, and ears. The only thing he had gotten from her was his smile and eyes; they were blue and piercing, just like hers. Japheth, on the other hand, had everything for his mom except his eyes; his eyes were just like his dad's. They were soft and brown. "We are going home today," Walker said while she handed Ben back to him. He turned his back on her to give her some privacy. She took off the hospital gown and got dressed in the clothes that he had brought for her. "Mom will be here in a second." He called out to her after she was done dressing. Walking into the room was Mrs Laura, who looked stunning as ever, dressed in a simple white dress with a white cashmere sweater draped over her shoulders. She looked stylish in her simple but expensive clothing. "Hey, Mrs. Laura," she greeted her. "Hey Iris, how are my grandbabies doing?" she asked. "They are looking very healthy, and they are glowing," she replied happily, which caused her to smile. They all left the hospital after the elevator dropped them on the first floor, where the building existed. They bid Laura goodbye and waited until she got inside her car and drove off. They had gotten home, and Walker was about to open the door for her when she felt her phone vibrating inside her jeans. She quickly took it out and saw that it was a text. Opening the message to see what it said, she almost threw her phone away when she read it. "I love you, and I will always love you" (Jacob).
