Chapter 9

Silas froze and his head snapped in his father's direction. His heart beating wildly like it would jump out of his chest at any moment. OH s**t… What do I do now ? His hand trembled as he tried to come up with a reasonable excuse but nothing… His brain was completely blank and he could only pray for a miracle. Naelis was also stunned as she never imagined such a thing to happen. On seeing Silas dazed expression, she became slightly worried as she looked in his father’s direction. Rowan had a deep frown on his face as he stared at the still connected phone. He was trying to process what he just heard. Did another boy just act cute to his son? Was Silas…. No…There's definitely no way, such a thing has never happened in their lineage. “You promised to come see me yesterday but you didn't come… I'm definitely going to give you a hard time when you finally come” Jamie's complaining voice came through once more and Rowan’s frown deepened as he got up from his chair. Now, he really couldn't sit still, he looked at Silas with a raised brow, waiting for a proper explanation from him. “Jamie, when are you going to stop pranking Silas? You are even using your father's phone to play such a silly joke” Naelis said with a reprimanding voice and she looked slightly annoyed. She prayed silently that Jamie would get her motive and end the call. “Silas?” But instead he called Silas with a slightly aggrieved tone but when no one responded, he quickly ended the call, he seemed to have gotten a slight understanding of the situation. Rowan’s frown relaxed and he looked at Naelis for an explanation. “Jamie is Silas project supervisor’s son, they had a little misunderstanding earlier” She explained while acting like she was finding it hard to hold back her laugh. Silas stared at her with a stunned expression as he actually never thought that he could avoid the disaster that almost happened just now. Naelis stepped hard on his toe to snap him out of his daze. He shook his head with an annoyed expression “If he continues, I might have no choice but to report him to his father” “You need to report him to his father, he can't be playing pranks that can ruin someone's reputation. Imagine we weren't alone just now, what would others think? You are the next in line to be the Alpha of Frostpine, so you must avoid rumors, especially this type” Rowan advised him with a stern expression and Silas nodded. “I have to inform your uncle about tomorrow's meeting,”Rowan said before walking out of the dining area. As soon as they couldn't see Rowan’s figure anymore, they both breathed a deep sigh of relief. “I really thought I was exposed… How did you come up with that idea?”Silas asked Naelis after gulping down an entire glass of water. “I told you before that there is no situation that doesn't have a way out and as long as there is a way out, I will find it” Naelis bragged with a smirk. Silas rolled his eyes at her but he couldn't deny that she literally just saved his life. “Thanks Nae” Silas said with an extremely grateful expression. “Don't mention… But you can show your appreciation by helping me get your uncle” Naelis wiggled her brows at him. He sighed in defeat but could only nod helplessly as he didn't have a choice at all. —--- Meanwhile, Zoran was also facing his own battles as Naelis’s under the table trick had lit a fire in his body. He walked very fast to avoid anyone seeing the huge bulge in his pants. Naelis’s arrival has been torturous to him as he could no longer see the self control he had spent years cultivating. BANG! He slammed the door as soon as he stepped into the room, his body trembling and claws elongated. His eyes turned completely red with red veins running down his neck, his fangs also grew thrice as long as it was supposed to be and his shirt ripped as his muscles tensed. His overwhelming aura filled the room and he looked nothing like the quiet and reserved elder that everyone knows. “Want… Mate!” A deep growl erupted from his guts and he quickly used the last bit of rationality he had left to hit a button on the wall. The room immediately turned extremely cold, even his breath could be seen as he fell on his knees. He stayed in that position for almost ten minutes before his claws suddenly retracted and his eyes returned to normal but he felt weak all over. He staggered to a nearby chair and took out a little journal. Some ancient looking symbols were scribbled on it. “The things of this world are nothing but vanity.. All shall pass and only the well cultivated beings shall be exempted and granted eternity” “A man with a good self control is likened to a sharpened blade which never hesitates to cut through the bones of his adversaries” He read the words on it repeatedly while taking slow deep breaths and a few minutes later, his strength was completely restored and he looked nothing like the person that had an episode just now. He hit the button to turn off the cold in the room and adjusted the air conditioner before stepping into the bathroom to freshen up. When he was done, he looked around the room to ensure that everything was in order before walking to the wall. At first, it was just a regular wall but when he placed his palm on it, a green light flashed and scanned his hand. Then the wall suddenly opened up to reveal a hidden compartment filled with paintings of a girl. The paintings were arranged in an orderly manner, from infant to adulthood. The girl in the painting has long red hair and fierce amber eyes. He walked to the last two paintings, one was of the girl in the rain on the night of their first meeting and the second was of her covered in blood while wearing a traditional dress. The paintings were of no one else but Naelis, each one showing her growth over the years. “Naelis Corin Haldrith ” He caressed the last one with a slight curve on his lips. He has always known she was his, right from the day she was born, he had seen her in his dreams every night but his dreams changed since she turned eighteen. So for the past three years, he has been tormented by the same dream.. of her dying after he marks her. Zoran ran his fingers over the last painting in which she was covered in blood “What would I do with you?” He was still staring at the paintings when his room door was suddenly pushed open from outside. “Brother I forgot to inform you of tomorrow's meeting” Rowan’s voice came from behind him
