Chapter 4

Elowen “You little piece of s**t!” Alyssa barked and lunged towards me. It all happened so fast that I couldn’t see it. She grabbed me and pulled me to the wooden floor. I landed roughly, pain flaring at my spine. I groaned acknowledging it, and before I could say another word, she slammed a fist on my cheek. The pain stung badly and I winced, trying my best to pull away from her but she was after me like a hungry animal. “How dare you!?” She growled, her voice venomous. It was filled with pain. “After everything I’ve done for you! You still did this to me!” “Alyssa. Please wait! You don’t understand!” I pleaded but she didn’t listen. She sent another fist at me and I dodged it miraculously. Her fist landed on the wooden floor, breaking through it and creating a hole. As she struggled to pull her hand away from the hole, I rose to my feet and rushed to the window. Alyssa pulled her hand out successfully and made her way towards me. “Please, Alyssa! Just listen! I didn’t want to do this! Your dad made me do it!” But she didn’t listen. She walked towards me, a storm of rage and tears. She threw a fist at me but I dodged it and her hand smashed the window. Shards of glass fell on the floor, some landing on her hand. And then, the metallic tang of blood filled the air. My eyes darted to her hand and found blood oozing out of her wrist. “Alyssa! You’re bleeding!” I pointed out. But as always, she didn’t pay attention. “You took away everything from me!” She growled, her voice primal with revenge. “I trust you.” I paused at the dresser wondering what next I was going to do. I didn’t want to lay a finger on her. My guilt wouldn’t let me. I wasn’t at fault for this, but the feeling of betrayal lingered at the pit of my stomach. It was hard to let go. “Please! Alyssa!” I begged. She arrived at the dresser and I knew what was coming next. She threw a fist at me and I shut my eyes waiting for the impact. But it never came. I opened my eyes and found Draven standing before me, holding Alyssa’s bloody fist. His face was filled with rage as he glared at her. You wouldn’t be able to tell that they had been in love once. Alyssa’s face softened as she gazed at Draven. I gulped hard hoping that I could get out of here before she turned back to the Terminator. “D—Draven,” she stuttered before hugging him. Draven didn’t hug her back. Instead, he stared down at her as she wrapped her hands around him. My eyes darted to the door and found it wide open. It was barely standing on one of its hinges. Did Draven do that? If he did, how fast had he come to my rescue? I didn’t know he’d followed me back home. Or had he been watching me the whole time? Alyssa pulled away from the hug and stared up at Draven. “Draven. I’m so sorry,” she pleaded. “One minute I was in my bed, the next moment I found myself in this cave somewhere in the woods. I tried my best to make it back in time but I was too late.” So that’s what happened to her. And here I thought she had been kidn*pped. She had been drunk last night and didn’t notice it happened. What if it were someone who did that? But who would dare do something like that to the Alpha’s daughter? Everybody was pleased that she was getting married to Draven. The whole town had been filled with joy. And now, they were filled with hatred and contempt for me. “Let’s forget this happened and redo the wedding,” she suggested. “This time we can do it at your pack like you requested.” Draven didn’t say a thing. His face was still plain making it hard to know what he was thinking. And then, he pulled Alyssa away from him. “It’s too late, Alyssa,” he said, his voice barely a whisper. “The rites can’t be undone.” I could see the light in Alyssa’s eyes quench. Her heart must have shattered into a thousand pieces. This was the girl who had given me everything. She had been a friend to me. And I couldn’t help but think that I had stolen her spot. This was supposed to be her day. But I had stolen it from her. There was no way I would recover from this. Alyssa’s eyes fell on me, and her face slowly twisted into rage. There was blood dripping from her wrist and I wondered if she hadn’t noticed it. “You,” she growled. “I’m going to kill you, Elowen!” She attempted to lunge at me but Draven held her back with ease. “Don’t make this harder than it should be,” he said softly. Alyssa’s rage disappeared as she laid eyes on him. Draven was like her kryptonite. “Please Draven. Don’t do this to me,” she begged. “I’ve waited so long for this. I’ll do anything. I can be your second wife. Please, don’t leave me.” But Draven ignored her. My chest tightened as he turned around nonchalantly facing me. He pulled my box from the bed and handed it to me as he walked over. “Let’s go,” he told me. I nodded obediently and turned to Alyssa who was sitting on her knees. Her blonde hair covered her face and her blood stained the white nightdress she wore. It broke me to see her in this condition. As we walked out the door, I heard her call me. My body went cold. “Elowen.” I turned around. Her voice was cold as ice. “You will pay for this,” she said slowly lifting her head. Her blue eyes that once held love for me were now burning with rage and hatred. It was a terrifying look. I was left petrified by her words. “I promise you.” Draven held my hand and pulled me out of the room. I could hear Alyssa screaming out Draven’s name as we stood on my porch. “Don’t ever expect me to save you again,” Draven said without looking at me. His voice was as cold as Alyssa's. “And don’t think that this marriage makes you my Luna.” My heart shattered at his words. But what more was I expecting? None of us wanted this. It was a mistake. I gulped hard and nodded. A black Cadillac stopped before us and he stepped off the porch. “Let’s go.”
