CHAPTER TEN Gently pushing Alyssa away from him, Jake’s eyes met Nick’s. “Take her downstairs to the panic room. We’ll check it out.” Nick nodded, but before anyone could move, Jake’s phone, sitting on the coffee table, notified him of a text. A quick glance at the screen had him calming again as he sighed. “Never mind.” Giving Alyssa a reassuring smile, he gestured to the hallway leading to her bedroom. “It’s okay. It’s a good friend of mine, and he’s here to help. Why don’t you hit the sack, and I’ll introduce you to him in the morning?” The girl nodded, but by the way she bit her bottom lip, it was apparent she was still wary.
