Lydia’s POV
I gripped my legs tightly around his waist as he pinned me against the wall. He revealed my neck with a light tug on my choker and a playful bite, leaving trails of kisses. I groaned even louder, eager for him to penetrate me.
“I told you not to come” he growled as his member entered forcefully inside me. I yelped loudly, a little apprehensive at first as my womanhood got accustomed to his pulsating member.
“I missed you” I replied, feeling very relaxed once he took it out and flipped me towards the wall.
“Yeah, that’s your problem, you don’t listen, Lydia. That’s why you’ll get punished” he whispered into my ear whilst moving in from the back. He grabs my choker and thrusts harder, almost leaving me out of breath.
“Stop” I managed to say once I'd hit my limit and the sensation was no longer pleasurable.
“What’s the magic word?” Even though I was facing the wall, I could sense his grin. He thrived on the sadistic sensation, and he knew he was in command.
“Pleaaase” I blurted out, feeling annoyed.
He yanks my necklace off my neck and tosses me onto the bed. I was lying on the bed, gaping at him. I followed him all the way here. I knew he was furious. I knew I needed to control myself and have some pride. But I couldn't stand on the side-lines any longer.
“I’m sorry, okay. I can see that I’ve upset you”. I lowered my gaze.
“Oh no, you didn’t just upset me Lydia, I’m furious.” He flips me quickly and spanks me hard with his hand raised. I wanted to scream and wail, but I craved his attention so badly that I let him have his way with me.
“So furious, that you have forgotten your duties” He went on while I endured another spanking.
“It hurts . . .” I whispered, but I knew he wasn’t done with me yet.
“That’s the whole point” he remarked.
“Fine, go ahead” I replied by arching my back and granting him complete access. If he thought I was going to back down, I wasn’t. I'm done with sneaking around. I've had enough of these pointless responsibilities. I'm not the princess who ends up with the prince charming in fairy tales. I've learned to accept my reality. I’ll always be that girl on the side-lines, yearning for a glimpse of that fairy-tale future. But, over time, I've come to realize that I only have two choices, which ultimately leave two perspectives: become my own hero in my own story or become a villain in someone else’s.
He glared at me for what it seemed like an eternity, before getting out of bed and reaching for a bathrobe. He threw my clothes back at me and motioned for me to dress.
“No, finish what you started” I yelled in anger.
“Lydia, I have a ton of s**t that I have to do, and you are not helping. I don’t need someone so insecure with herself that she had to fly all the way to Rome because I didn’t reply to her stupid little messages”
I stared at him in disbelief. Did he think that low of me? I’ve risked everything for this man and he had the audacity to call me insecure?
“Yeah, that’s right, you don’t need me. You’re getting married in a week!” I grunted.
He rolled his eyes in annoyance.
“Yes, to your best friend, whom I ordered you to keep an eye on.”
“She couldn't care less about you, Charlie! She hasn't shown up for any of the dress fittings, and she hasn't even mentioned the wedding. Last month, I saw her almost kiss that Australian guy.” I continued to ramble but Charlie showed no interest in hearing what I had to say.
“None of that matters to me. You understand why I'm marrying her. We were both in agreement, you and I. Why are you having such a hard time with it now?” I stared at him blankly as he grew more exasperated.
“Because you’re marrying her, not me! You said you loved me Charlie. I’m sick of Fiona. She gets everything all the f*****g time! Every guy I’ve had a crush on asked her out in high school and here you are, the man I’m in love with, marrying her! She’s not even rich! And it’s ridiculous that you’re listening to that long-haired crazy woman, Hila, in the first place! She’s just a f*****g Shaman!”
Everything I'd been holding back erupted at once. As I awaited his response, I felt a big weight lift from my shoulders.
“Lydia, you have no idea what you're talking about. You have no clue the extent to which the White family has gone to get to this point in life. Do you think wealth is easy to come by? No way. You're totally unaware of what you're getting yourself into. I'm only trying to keep you safe.”
“Then enlighten me. I want to know! What is your plan exactly? Marry Fiona and then what? I’m not going to sit by and watch you both get married! What does Fiona have that I don’t?”
Growing up, I’ve always tried to be a good friend. I was there when Fiona barred everyone out following her mother's death. She simply began to exist in her own little world. My problems were irrelevant to her; in fact, I didn't exist in her precious world. Everything was always about her. So when she finally met Charlie and started taking him for granted, I stepped in. I was there for him. I fell in love with him and immediately despised her when he asked her to marry him. Not long after, when Charlie finally partially revealed his plan, I was on board. Why not? After all, it was a business transaction. He didn't love her, and he had no intention of ever loving her.
Charlie chuckled and took my hands in his. He replied while clutching them hard. “Wealth. Tremendous amount of it. Something I'm confident I'll be able to get out of the marriage”
“Charlie, that doesn't make any sense. Fiona isn't rich.” I implored him once more, just as I had before. But every time I brought it up, he waved it off as if he was certain this was the best approach.
“Yea, she isn’t. But she will make me richer. Lydia, you just have to trust me”
“You told me this was a business deal. You told me you would break up with her once it’s done. Isn’t it done already? Do you need to get married? You said . . you said you loved me!” I broke down in tears, unable to suppress my feelings. I was insecure, to be honest.
“It is sort of a business deal. One that Fiona isn’t aware of. And yes, I will break up with her once it’s done. I’ll just have to marry her first. I’ve spent too much time putting on a fake façade to accomplish my goal and I won’t let anyone get in the way of that” My sobbing came to a halt as he flashed me a stern glare.
“I’m not getting in the way, I’m just trying to understand. You can’t listen to what a crazy shaman is spewing out every second” I attempted to explain myself, but I could tell he wasn't paying attention.
“You don’t understand the things Hila is capable of, Lydia. All this wealth and money and this empire was built because of her. She knows everything, she knows what Fiona will do, I just have to trust her and wait out the storm. So now, I would appreciate it if you left me to do my business and go back to keeping an eye on Fiona”, he replied.
“How long”
“Now what?”
“How long do I have to wait?”
“A year, till then let’s just sneak around like we have been doing. You know I love you” He gave a sidelong grin. I couldn't help but feel a smidgeon of relief.
“What am I supposed to do with the Aussie guy?” I inquired, recalling Aiden. There was something going on between Fiona and Aiden. I wasn't stupid, but I chose to ignore it because it diverted her attention away from Charlie. However, I was well aware that this was not what Charlie had directed me to do. Despite my frustration with the situation, I was supposed to ensure Fiona was still on board with the wedding.
“Oh right, I forgot.” Charlie stood up and walked over to the hotel's dresser, where he retrieved Fiona's necklace. The necklace Fiona’s mother gave her, the necklace I had taken and told her that I hadn’t seen. “Here, thanks for bringing in her necklace, Hila was able to put a stronger spell on it. Apparently, the one she put on the engagement ring somehow wore off.”
“Sure, if you say so” I sighed and rolled my eyes. I didn't believe any of Hila's bullshit. She considers herself a shaman, but suddenly she has the ability to cast powerful spells? So far, none of them appear to be working on Fiona.
“And hey, power through these tough days, just like I am. Remember, Fiona is just a key to the treasure. Once I have it, we'll celebrate together. Till then, don’t risk it. Follow the plan just like I told you”, Charlie placed a soft kiss on my forehead.
“Uggh fine, I have one question though.”
“Sure, make it the last one and then I'll book you a flight back home.”
“If Hila can cast spells, why can’t she, can’t she just make you richer without Fiona’s help?”
“It doesn’t work like that. She knows the best possible outcome for me and she never disappoints.”
“And what does she want in return?” I asked him.
“Oh look, you’ve run out of questions for the week”, Charlie was quick to respond. He proceeded to answer the doorbell when it suddenly rang. I peered through the tiny space to see who he was conversing with. He was unmistakably speaking to Hila. I could see her long black hair and all of her gleaming rings, but there was someone else standing next to her. A woman who was pregnant.
I didn’t know what life had in stored for me. But I knew what entailed Fiona’s future. I was somehow in control of it. I picked up the necklace and stared at it with a grin on my face.
