Angel and Demon

893 Words
Hugh’s POV “Something’s not right”, I thought to myself. Something strange was in the air. My senses never fail to alert me when fate has been tampered with, especially when fate and destiny are part of my anatomy. I skulk in the shadows, roaming freely and, if need be, I might even stick around humans. But in all my millions of years on Earth, I've never met two souls that were so destined for each other. Perhaps I got a little carried away with my plan to help them discover each other. Perhaps I overstepped my bounds and interfered when I shouldn't have. Maybe all I wanted was for them to see what I've seen in every parallel dimension. A love so intense and pure that these two souls could practically become one if they were put together. I used to be a god who wandered the heavens and the earth. Using my powers for the welfare of society until my spells devoured by human’s, birthed toxicity. Yes, sometimes even love spells can devolve into chaos. Little did I know, the spells were so strong that it coerced my subjects. Little did I know I would be exiled from Heaven, my powers stripped from me, and I would be reduced to a spirit wandering the Earth, watching soul mates lose their connection. Helpless and powerless to do anything about it. However, everything changed five years ago, when I mustered enough energy from all the millennia’s I’ve spent on Earth. I used what little power I had to connect Fiona and Aiden through their dreams. I was aware of the consequences of my actions. But what can you expect from this fallen angel? I was bound to help them see their future. My spirit wandered around the room freely as I watched Fiona packing her suitcase. I knew she’d finally come to her senses now that the ring was off her fingers. I knew of Hila’s work but I was unaware of the extent she’d go to get what she wanted. The minute I laid my eyes on Fiona’s roommate, Lydia, I distinctly knew something was wrong. “Alright, time to confront the demon”, I thought to myself. -------- I traversed the streets in search of Hila. Finally, I was able to catch a glimpse of her in the hotel lobby, conversing with Charlie. I looked about for a weak link once Charlie had gone. My gaze shifted to the foyer, where I noticed a 6-foot-tall man dressed in a suit. He appeared muscular, yet his aura was so weak, which made it easier for me to enter his body. I mustered up every bit of my energy and gushed through his body. "Let me guess, the cupid finally wants to have a conversation?" Hila remarked as I approached her from behind, already aware of my presence. “Yes, I do. And don’t call me cupid. I am a God!” I snapped. “You WERE a God. You were demoted, remember?” She curled her fingertips, unimpressed. “I don’t care what a little wish demon thinks” I scoffed, staring into her dark brown eyes. She seemed unfazed by my presence, which infuriated me. “Then to what do I owe this pleasure, Hugh?” Hila smirked, taking a seat on the couch. “Your little charm spells aren’t going to work on them”. I folded my arms, confronting her about her antics. “I’ve noticed. Probably the first time my spells weren’t strong enough for a mere mortal”. She grinned. “So stop meddling”, I raised my voice, trying to find common ground. But what was I thinking? When have angels and demons ever gotten along with one another? “Oh, like you haven’t meddled with them?” Hila’s brown eyes turned fiery red. I knew it struck a nerve when her charm spells kept backfiring. Charlie might have hired her as a shaman, unaware of her true potential and nature. But all along he’s been making deals with a wish demon. Rank wise, she’s still weaker compared to her more powerful demon brothers and sisters. But Hila can still conjure up havoc if she’s truly dedicated. It all depended on what Charlie was willing to sacrifice to get what he wanted. “They are soul mates. I just helped them find each other”, I explained. “Now that you’ve done so, sod off! I’ll take it from here” Hila replied harshly. I knew it was a threat, but I'm not going to allow her to put Fiona and Aiden's future in jeopardy. She spoke as if she had already begun her next move. “Listen Hila, you can’t make . . “ I began to say, but sadly, my time inside this body had run out. “I can and I will. And next time you try to interfere with my plans, Hugh, I will trap your spirit in the underworld. Do not test me”. Hila threatened me in her demonic voice. As I exited the man's body, I felt my power dissipate. Hila has an evil grin on her face as she glances at my spirit. She was surrounded by darkness. Whatever she had planned with Charlie wasn't going to do any good.
