Odessa got to Freya's house, and she was astonished to see Freya's parents still having breakfast. The overwhelming part of it was that Freya wasn't even there with them.
Freya was her best friend, despite the fact that she was a year older than her. She was the youngest among her crew.
“She is in her room,” Freya's mother announced.
“Good morning, ma'am, good morning, sir,” Odessa found herself saying before she rushed to Freya's room.
She knocked, and at that moment, Freya sluggishly spoke.
“Come in, Odessa.”
Odessa opened the door and walked in astonishment. “How did you know I was the one knocking?” She asked, walking to Freya's bed.
Freya's voice was drowsy as she murmured from the depths of her bed without bothering to turn towards her.
"I'm a wolf, for crying out loud," she drawled, her voice low, with a hint of a yawn. "I could smell your scent."
Odessa shook Freya to wake up. "Wake up, sleepy head; it's past 8 a.m. already.” Her voice was gentle but firm.
Freya groggily opened her eyes, her gaze blurry and unfocused. She rubbed her eyes, trying to shake off the remnants of sleep. "Ugh, I'm not the one who wants to be the next Luna of the King's Pack," she mumbled, her voice sleepy.
Odessa smiled mischievously and said, “Ryker and I kissed yesterday.”
Freya's eyes snapped open, her expression changed, and she sat up with a sudden jolt, her eyes locked onto Odessa with intensity. “You did what?”
Odessa chuckled in laughter, a tinkling sound that filled the room. "I want to see him again today,” she said, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "I miss him already.”
“Odessa, you're crazy.”
“Yeah, I know, crazy in love,” she said, laughing.
Freya gently threw off the covers and swung her legs over the side of the bed. She held Odessa's hands. “Tomorrow you will be nineteen; he will be yours the moment he picks you to be his mate after you've shifted. Why not wait?” Freya asked.
Before Odessa could give a reply, another knocked.
“Are you expecting someone?” Odessa asked, and the knock came again.
“Come in, Akira.”
Akira was their common friend; she was the same age as Freya, twenty years old. Most importantly, she was Ryker's baby sister; she was a beauty to behold; black curly long hair, black eyes, pink lips, pointed nose, an oval face, and rounded hips were what Freya envied.
She was the only one among her crew who didn't have rounded hips, but she was beautiful nonetheless. Taller than the two, she has straight black hair, black eyes, and a rounded face with a pointed nose. Her skin glowed all the time.
Akira walked energetically and sat beside Freya. “Your mother said you've refused to rise from bed.”
“What's wrong with you two? I did a lot of activities last night; I slept so late.”
Akira looked at Odessa, and the two chuckled in laughter. Freya felt lost at the moment.
“So tell me, what did I miss?” Akira asked.
Freya tried speaking, but Odessa signaled her not to. Akira noticed this and gazed at Odessa.
“Does this have anything to do with my brother?” Akira asked.
Odessa wasn't really comfortable disclosing things to Akira; she knew Akira was the daughter of their Alpha, and she was scared that Akira might one day report her to the Alpha. If she were a simpler girl like Freya, she wouldn't have seen reasons to hide anything from her.
Odessa nodded in affirmation regarding Akira's question. She anticipated what her reaction would be.
“And you're scared? Would I relate your words to my family?” Akira asked.
Odessa nodded in affirmation, this time around with concern.
“Oh dear, I feel bad about this; we've been friends for God knows how long, and you can't speak freely to me yet.” Akira's voice was filled with concern.
“They kissed,” Freya spilled the beans.
Odessa felt betrayed but hid it; she didn't want to create a scene, and Akira was bound to find out regardless.
Akira was dumbfounded; her eyes were still focused on Odessa when a small chuckle escaped her lips.
“He couldn't wait for the ceremony,” Akira said softly.
Akira's smile grew wider, and it gladdened Odessa’s heart. She was pleased that Akira was alright with it; she saw no further reason to hide details from her.
“So you've finally had your first kiss; this is good news; we should celebrate it.”
Odessa smiled.
Freya interrupted, looking disturbed. “We would celebrate if she promised not to repeat it today.”
Odessa felt annoyed instantly. Freya had just told Akira that she planned on seeing Ryker again. She couldn't comprehend what Freya intended to achieve.
“What is wrong with you?!” She glared at Freya.
“I'm just saying that it isn't right to be kissing your chosen mate before the ceremony.”
Odessa stood up immediately and walked out.
Akira tried to stop her, “Odessa, please come back,” but Odessa left regardless.
“That was harsh,” Akira whispered to Freya.
“To one day become a Luna isn't all about learning how to get up on time; what about the rules?” Freya continued.
“It was just a kiss.”
“And how many times did you kiss your mate before you shifted?” Freya asked.
Tears rolled down Odessa's cheeks as she walked down the streets; the joy she felt before visiting her best friend had disappeared.
She sat down on a bench and wiped her tears. It was then that she remembered the dream she had the previous night, and she thought about it for a while.
"Oh, it's just a dream.” She thought to herself.
She sat there for like an hour and made up her mind to go see Ryker, regardless of Freya's opinion.
But she was too tired to run or trek. She wasn't even with cash; neither was she with her phone. Regardless, she stopped a taxi and told the taxi driver her destination.
The taxi driver got to the destination; she opened the door and took to her heels. She ran into the woods, knowing fully well that the driver wouldn't drive into the woods.
Ryker's house was behind those woods; it was a narrow route to their backyard. Everywhere seemed so quiet. She went to the front yard and knocked, and a maid opened the door.
“Is Ryker in?” She asked.
“He wants to be left alone,” the maid replied.
“I don't understand,” she said, peeping in. “Where is everyone?” Odessa asked.
"Look, child, if you're asking about Alpha, Luna, and Akira... None of them are in; you can come back later,” the maid said, trying to shut the door on Odessa.
But Odessa held the door open, preventing it from shutting. “I'm not looking for any of those people you mentioned; I just want to see Ryker; he would be pleased to meet me... Please let me in,” she pleaded.
The maid's expression remained resolute, her voice firm. “He was crystal clear when he said I shouldn't let anybody in.” The maid dragged the door out of Odessa's hands and shut it.
“Anybody?” The words echoed in Odessa's mind.
She became curious to know what Ryker could be doing in his room alone, and she wondered why he requested not to be disturbed.
She looked around and quietly moved to the backyard. She saw a ladder, and she quickly stood it on the wall leading to Ryker's window. Her intention was to climb and enter his room through his window. She wanted to surprise him.
She smiled and began climbing, but before she got to his window, she heard passionate moans.
“Is he seeing a movie?” she thought to herself.
