The air swirled with something sinister, the ground shook as evil laughter could be heard beneath. Demons. They were here again. Even from my place in the cell, I already knew what was happening.
The demons of Hadeimus were here to torment us with fear again, this was not a regular occurrence but it had happened before. They would always come to instill fear in us, threaten to take our pack from us.
Alpha Dylien was the only one who stood up to them whenever they came. He might be wicked and mean, there was no doubt he was powerful and strong which was why no one complained about his leadership skill.
What other packs might take, he would not condone it. Dark Crystal was the strongest and biggest pack. Nonetheless, the demons still liked to come bully us.
The ground of our cells began to crack open, along with others, I began to scream. My whole body hurt from the beatings I'd been receiving.
Big, dark smoke slithered through the cracks and upon reaching the ground morphed into the solid figure of a demon. More screams could be heard, mine too.
"Which one of you is coming with me?" His voice echoed and boomed.
And yes, the demons liked to go with a soul for every visit.
Oh, Mother of the Moon save me and keep me protected. My mother, not my mother. I had no idea how she was, I hoped they would not take her anywhere.
This particular demon got to my cell, and watched me with eyes that burned with evil flames. "You!"
I shook my head, backing up against the wall. "No. No. No." My voice was a trembling whisper, I was too scared to speak loud. Tears were already pooling in my eyes.
I had heard stories of how captives taken to Hadeimus were tortured not physically, but through their souls, and that was the worst form of torture. To be alive, your body free from physical damage but the soul received more pain than necessary.
"Yes. Yes. Yes." As he got closer, the cell unlocked, the gate opened wide to let him entrance. Dark powers.
I was dead. "P-please...n-not m-me, I beg of you..." I sobbed, even Fheena was already howling in desolation and despair in my head. Her wolf eyes was clouded in sheer fear as I knew mine already was.
"Then who?" He casually walked in, grabbed my arm and effortlessly pulled me out.
I was too weak to struggle; two days without food and daily flogging would do that to anybody. But I tried. I tried because I knew what this would mean for me.
I held the gate as my anchor. "Nooooo... please. Please don't take me...ahh!" I sobbed and pleaded desperately.
"Leave her alone!" Alpha Dylien stormed into the cell arena, other cell mates were already crying and fidgeting.
"Ah...if it isn't Alpha Dylien, the most ruthless Alpha." It sounded as though this demon was actually taunting than showing respect or impressiveness.
"I'm glad you're aware of my reputation, demon. Now let her go." The warning rang clear and the promise of what was to come if his warning was not heeded was also clear.
For first time, I actually chose to remain with the Alpha, his torture was physical compared to what this demon wanted me for. I would barely last an hour before attempting suicide in Hadeimus.
"And if I don't Dylien, what would happen?!" He sneered, moving closer with me still in his tight grip.
"Show some respect demon. It's Alpha to you." He glowered, unafraid of the fire burning in the demon's eyes.
The demon cackled, the atmosphere sizzled with power and authority. "I am also no ordinary demon, I have my royal reputation to bear."
It was the Alpha's turn to emit a mocking laugh. "If you are a demon lord as you claim to be, why are you doing the job your demon guards should be doing for you?!" He poked a finger in the demon's chest. It was an unspoken call for war.
The demon roared and let go of me, he grew dark talons and went at the Alpha who was swift on his feet and dodged the weapon coming at him.
I stood there shivering, wondering how my life took such turn. Seeing them engrossed in their fight to establish dominance and power, I took my opportunity and snuck out of there.
I ran outside to see everywhere was disorganized, shouts and screams filled the pack as demons terrorized pack members. I made a beeline for my cottage, it had been two days since I last saw my mother.
I wanted to know how she was faring. I ran as fast as my depreciating strength could carry me. Someone grabbed my hand. "Where do you think you're escaping to, thief?" It was a guard.
"P-please..." I began to beg but his hold on me went lax as something hit him hard from behind, making him lose consciousness.
I saw the something...or rather someone. It was a young boy, around my age or a bit older. He looked weak and battered too. "Please, I'm guessing this is your pack, help me find a place to hide until I am able to escape..." He was out of breath; it was either he had been fighting or running for his life...or both.
I stared at him, wondering if I could trust him enough to take him into my home.
"Please.." He begged.
I pulled his hand and we headed towards my home. It was not long before we got to the cottage. "Mama!" I opened the door, my heart pounding in fear.
But relief flooded me when I saw her seating on the bed, looking a bit better. Then came the wonder. "Mama, how?"
"I took the drink you made for me." She still sounded a bit weak but there was definitely some improvement.
"I'm so happy." I rushed to go hug her.
"Watch your back!" Her eyes widened in alarm. I swiftly turned to see the boy with silvery white shoulder length hair lift a small stool and hit the guard on his face.
He rushed forward and grabbed my wrist. "Here's not safe."
