Malcolm prodded gently, after she hadn’t made a move in a few minutes. “Oh, no thanks, I’m going to use my cell,” she said, even as she glanced hurriedly around the room, her befuddled mind trying to remember where she’d last left it. “If you’re looking for your phone, you left it on the counter near the microwave.” She flashed him a grateful look and then surged upward before she lost her courage and all but ran into the kitchen, where her phone rested on the counter next to the microwave, just as he’d said.
