Erica I am tired of walking, can’t we take the subway instead? A lot happened in school today and I can’t wait for us to get home sos we can talk about it, because my wonderful sister has made it a rule that we can not have important conversations when walking regardless of how urgent it may be. Fiona complained.
Take the next turn, Erica said to her, not paying attention to what she said.
We are almost there.
They walked to an ice cream shop just a few blocks before their apartment. Fiona walked past that shop daily on her way to the subway whenever she takes a train to school, but if she uses a taxi, she travels a different route. But for all the time she has familiarized with the ice cream inn, she never got in. So, this was a big deal for her.
Fiona ran in like she was chased by a ghost. And her sister tried to keep up.
They got a place to seat, beside the TV. Place your order, we’ll eat out today, Erica informed her.
Huh! Fiona could not believe what she heard. Can you please what you said?
I said we are eating out. Erica yelled back at her as the noise from the TV commercial was really loud and she playfully ran her hand through Fiona’s hair.
A waiter walked up to them and handed the menu. Good afternoon ma’am. What would you choose to eat today.
The inn had beautiful paintings of outdoor creatures on its walls, flowers vases at every extreme. A multi-lit chandelier in the middle of the space. There were so many children queued at one end for ice cream.
Well, for starters, I want a popsicle and chicken wings, I’ll order for more later, I think I am dying tonight.
Why do you say that? He asked her.
My sister is doing what she has never done…she laughed hysterically and the young man serving them faced Erica. And you?
Pasta and a glass of juice would be fine.
He penned down their order and walked out.
So, what is so important you couldn’t wait till we got home. Just then a commercial featuring Alex displayed on the TV and Erica looked at him in disgust.
We are going to heaven, Erica.
Are you being serious? Fiona!
I am very serious Erica. She handed her the card Mr. Osborn gave her and narrated all that took place at her school.
So, you’re saying; you got an invitation to spend the weekend at the estate of your school’s owner and you were asked to come with your guardian, and the invitation is for this weekend and a car will be picking us? Am I correct?
Fiona nodded with excitement.
Okay. Well, if that is the case we have to go shopping then.
But we have no money, I am still trying to figure out why we are eating out today. It isn’t mum’s death anniversary and it’s neither your birthday nor mine. Tell me Erica, why are we celebrating?
Do you really really want to know the truth?
Yes! She responded enthusiastically.
Annie paid me a visit at my work place, she gave me a bundle of dollar bills and when I counted them, it amounted to fifty thousand dollars. She quickly put her hand over Fiona’s mouth to keep her from shouting. Promise you won’t scream, if I take my hand off. She nodded in agreement and Erica slowly removed her hand from Fiona’s lips.
We don’t easily get money like that, so, I choose for us to celebrate today, that’s all.
So, we are going shopping for new clothes for our weekend getaway?
What if the money had not come?
If we didn’t have this money we would have gone there just the way we are.
I have told you severely, “the opinion of others only matter if their comments are positive and will make an impact on your existence”.
Okay, whatever you say.
Alex paced across his room, soliloquizing.
He sat for a few minutes and got up when his phone rang. He picked up the call, it was Erica’s manager.
Hello! Mr .Alex
Hello! Do you have a response for me?
Yes Sir. The owners have agreed on a price after listening to your proposal. If you could please come to the address I’ll be sending after the call, to finalize the deal and sign the documents.
Okay. Alex replied and ended the call.
He jumped and danced like a madman upon hearing that information.
He could not explain the reason he was so exciting, the pieces of his plans to punish Erica for walking out on him are coming in place.
He stood in front of the mirror and smiled.
I will make her beg for mercy, I will bend her, and I’ll see who will walk out on the other person:
He laughed hysterically, brushed his hand against his chest and got ready to leave.
Mr. Edward was at Alex’s door about to ring the bell when he opened it.
Hmmmm…you seem very elated about something, I wonder what it could be? What atrocious act are you planning this time? I pray the Lord be with the person.
No! No! No! I just acquired a new property.
Congratulations Alex.
