“Tristan, Aiden,” he said. “I know you were due to go out on patrol this afternoon, but since you were out all night I’ve got Muircadh and Torryn to take Euan out instead. I’d like the two of you to go to the archives. Lieutenant Maire has made a start on researching this mysterious wizard, but she has other things to attend to this afternoon. She’ll brief you when you get there.”
Tristan stood with a curt nod and Aiden copied him, trying not to let the frown show on his face. Cuinn must have sensed it, for he gave Aiden a long hard stare before moving away. As soon as the Captain was gone Aiden’s shoulders slumped. Finally a chance to go on patrol and he was being sent to the archives instead.
“You’d better finish up quick,” said Tristan.
