5. SummonedThat night the burning building plagued Aiden’s dreams again. The flames caught him, sucking the air from his lungs, singeing his skin. He blinked furiously through the smoke. Suddenly his vision cleared. The girl stood before him. Her tawny hair floated around her head, her lips parted as if trying to call out to him. Aiden frowned. There was charcoal on her forehead, the smeared lines of the Brathadair symbol. The smoke darkened and the flames burned black. There was a man in the fire reaching out a hand, clawing his way towards him. An aching chill burned through his body. Sorcier. Aiden sat up. He winced as half-healed hands pressed down on the blankets. Mid-morning sun streamed in through the window and the soft sounds of voices and footsteps from the street soothed him. I
