Chapter 2 - BREAKPOINT

995 Words
Claire's POV I opened the door. Daniel was sprawled out on my couch with my bags all around him. I close the door quietly behind me. “What? Going through my things? The f**k you looking for now?” He looks annoyed as he angrily tossed the angry purse. “I'm looking for money; you vanished last night without giving me any.” I breathed heavily and didn't want to argue, but seeing him here made me realize how low my standards were. “You could have just asked.” He laughed. “Asked who? You weren't here. Where were you? You smell of liquor; your dress is wrinkled; your hair is in a mess. Seems to me you were out all night.” I walked past him, throwing my bag onto the table, and said. “I had a bad day.” “A bad day? Is that why you are out all night and come home to this, walking into this house looking like that? What do you want people to think about me and my honor? You could have set an example of being a good wife instead, you are becoming something else, like a …” “Watch it,” I snapped. “Don't finish that sentence.” He stood there and pointed. “What, do you think you can speak to me like that now that you've left me without cooking or ordering food for me? I had a meeting this morning and needed food and instead of you being at home cooking for me, you were out doing God knows what with who knows what!.” My fists clenched. “You could have made your dinner, Daniel. You're not that helpless.” “That's not even the point! You're my wife, and you have duties. You're not a kid anymore you're getting older. And you need to start acting like that! Stop running around.” I tightened my jaw. “Isnt this big talk? Morals and responsibility coming from you?” He frowned. “What's that supposed to mean?” “I saw you yesterday...with her. On the couch. In red panties?” He was at a loss for words for one second before saying. “You're imagining things.” “I wish,” I said, “You didn't even hide it properly. I knew you were horny and needed a good fuck...but in the living room?” He rubbed his eyes with his hand. “You had no right to spy on me.” “I wasn't spying,” I said, annoyed. “I had come home early from work. Or have you forgotten?” He looked at me, twisted his mouth. “So what if I made a mistake? You have been distant for months. Every time I attempt to get close to you, you shove me away. I am a man, I have needs and it is not my fault you can not satisfy them.” “Don't put the blame on me,” I screamed. “You cheated, Daniel. You brought someone to our house, and now you act like a saint.” He yelled, “if you had not been complaining all the time, and if you had shown some interest, I would never have needed to find anybody else.” I felt like I would explode. "You sicken me." He stepped forward and dropped his voice. “You think you can do better? You are almost fifty now, Claire. Who would want you now? Be grateful that someone wants you.” I stared at him, my palm itching to connect to his face. But I took a deep breathe and softly said, “pack your things.” He blinked. “What?” “You heard me, pack your things and get out.” He chuckled. “This is my house too.” “No,” I said. “I paid for this house before I met you. My name is the only name on the papers. Just leave.” He stepped towards me again. “Where will you go, Claire? You think anyone is waiting for you? Nobody wants you!” He spat. The cold voice that came from me almost stung in the silence, “I don't want a man who has to mention that he was in my p***y even before I realized it. And for information, that girl was just acting all through, your d**k ain’t s**t!.” He opened his mouth to say something, but I turned back and locked myself inside the bathroom. The water was unbearably hot against my still swollen p***y, all as a result of the young man’ relentless pounding. I didn't even know his name. I tried shaking the thoughts off my head but it only made it worse. It was when I finally emerged from the bathroom that I found Daniel packing. "You're gonna regret this. You may think you're strong, but you're not. One month, you will not last month, and no man will love you again. I swear I will find someone better," he said. I stopped at the door. "You forgot, I also like women, so she better not be my type," I said casually. He zipped the suitcase and shook his head. "You'll crawl back." I waited until his footsteps faded away to sit on the couch. The house was the eeriest quiet. I hadn't really been left on alone for years. I sighed while grabbing my laptop and looking for a job- any job that did not need references or anything similar to my old job. Page after page; nothing looked good. Almost all wanted energetic youthful workers. How cruel! I massaged my temples and leaned back against the chair. I was hungry but didn't feel like cooking in a presumably empty kitchen. My phone buzzed. I picked it up, thinking it must be an email. My heart almost skipped a beat when I saw the name. Sophie.
