Madas rose to her feet and slowly approached where Gril lay sprawled on the ground. There was a rivulet of blood trickling down from where she had struck him with the rock. She hadn’t meant to, it had been an involuntary reaction when he startled her. She had been absently turning the stone in her hand when he emerged from the darkness. She knelt beside him and carefully cupped his head, turning it so that she could get a look at where he had hit the rock. Her fingers traced a growing knot on the side of his temple.
