Chapter Seventeen
I was trying to stay as calm as possible, though my palms were dripping with sweat as we lined up on the tiny stage. My big intro to show business, and I was about ready to pee in my rip-off tux. I felt this funny kick in the back of my shins. I turned around and spotted (even in the dark) blond Randy and Rip smirking. “Good luck, girl,” Randy hissed between his teeth. “Just remember: Seniority counts here. We get first pick of the johns, uh, I mean customers.”
“Watch out,” Ernie, next to me, whispered. “Ty Rex and Godzilla are getting ready.” I nodded my head, gave Ernie a quick kiss, then heard Steve’s dry monotonal voice pierce the darkness, as the curtain went up, with: “Ladies and gen’lement. Dis evening for yaw pleasure, we present again . . . de Xanadu boys.”
