Caroline had reached the exit part of the building, finding how to jump down without being hurt. She looks around to make sure no one is coming so she can escape. The roof height to the floor is deep but no other options for her than to jump. She jumped and her toes hit a hard stone which made her scream as she was writhing in pain. Moving gradually to the compound gate with her bleeding toes.
Her scream made her mother move her wheelchair near the window, she kept staring around as she was listening to her silent sobbing. Immediately she saw her leaving to the gate, with all the strength she had, she called her out loudly “My child, please don't go”
Caroline looked back and saw her weak mother face through the window. She was surprised she could hear her that loud and clear. With her eyes full of tears, she looked at her mother and remembered the first day she complained about having a stomach ache. Which all of them took lightly, until she came back from hospital and broke the news of her stomach cancer to them. That was the last time she saw her mother healthy.
She has been on drugs since then and the situation is getting worse and requires surgery which her father couldn't afford at the moment. She couldn't resist her mother's call, she made her way to the window where her mother was sitting, she couldn't look at her only tears running down her cheeks with her head bent.
“Please don't be angry at your father, he is doing his best to save his family. Investors are ready to arrest him if he doesn't pay them, and once he is in prison, everyone will suffer here. That will even send me to my grave earlier than I thought and what do you think will happen to you and your siblings. Wandering around with no guidance or someone to care for you. I know it's unfair to you but please do this for us” Mrs. Clement plead as she sobs.
Caroline couldn't hold back her tears, she cried bitterly with a loud voice. Which makes her father rush out of the building.
“How do you get here, have been at your door since” Mr. Clement shouted and started dragging her into the house.
“Easy, take it easy on her, she just a child” Mrs. Clement said with her shaking voice and she started making moves with her wheelchair to go and meet them at the living room.
When Mr. Clement realized Caroline wanted to escape, he lost his temper more than before. Aside that she had been ignoring his knock, yet she planned to run away to disgrace him. He looked at her in disgust and couldn't tolerate her anymore. “At this point I know what to do to you” he locked the living room door and went into the store.
Mrs. Clement met him on his way to the store room, “please, be calm, she's just a child.” She begged her husband but the angry man just passed without listening to her. Caroline ran to her mother as she sighted her on her way to the living room. She held her weak hands, and couldn't control her tears, both looked into one another and cried like a baby. Mrs. Clement wants to talk but she couldn't find the perfect words to console her only daughter and friend.
Mr. Clement showed up in the living room with a rope on his hand. He grabbed Caroline hand forcefully and dragged her to the sofa.
She was struggling to free herself from him, “leave me alone, please, don't tie me like a slave yet. I know you already sold me out, let me enjoy the rest of the days as a free person before I started my slavery journey. This is what you have been keeping me for all these days, I know you are not kind and lovable as you acted. Just let me live these few days as free as I can.” She kept yelling and uttering all those words but Mr. Clement doesn't care, none does he listens to her.
He turned her hands behind her back and tied her. Mrs. Clement couldn't believe what her husband was doing to their daughter, she tried to stop him but was too weak to hold him down. She kept dragging his clothes but immediately Mr. Clement successfully tied Caroline's hands, she dragged his wife's wheelchair far away from them.
He held Caroline's clothes and dragged her into the visitor room. Put her on the bed and tie her legs too. Caroline looked so surprised to see the monster he had been calling father since all these days. “ Since you refused to listen, this is how you will live the rest of the days in this house” Mr. Clement said as he walked to the door. He shut the door behind her and locked.
Caroline looked at herself, she felt pity for the life that she is about to experience. The way she has been tied gives her all the imagination of what her next life will look like. “What can make my own father tie me down like this, how will a stranger do to me” she asked herself as she continued sobbing.
Her mother could hear her silent sobs every moment, she felt how her heart was bleeding and couldn't help. She stood by the door, leaning on it just to listen to Caroline. Mr. Clement came and drove her wheelchair away from the door, but as he left her she returned there herself.
The house was quiet as a graveyard, everyone was sad and Mr. Clement's new behavior is strange to all of them. No one dared utter a word or play around the house, it was a silent night for all of them.
Mr. Clement took a plate of food to Caroline. He was surprised to meet his wife at the door again. “Woman, what is your problem? Should I lock both of you in” he asked angrily.
Mrs. Clement couldn't respond, all she does is cry. She couldn't even help herself talk less of helping her own child, she blames herself for everything Caroline is going through at the moment. “If I had not been a sick mother, would I have ruined my husband's business and left him with no other choice than to sell off our only daughter to an old billionaire?” She kept asking herself different questions regarding her health status which is about to put them in trouble.
Caroline felt like hell as she saw her father with the food. She wants to jump on him and tear him into pieces like a lion's reaction to prey. He sat beside her and took a spoon with food to her mouth, she eagerly took it from him and split it back at his face.
“What the hell is wrong with you” Mr. Clement screamed and raised his hand to hit Caroline before her mother rushed in. “Please, don't” she said stammering and his hand was suspended in the air before taking it down.
“Woman, talk to your daughter. She doesn't have any other choice than to cooperate and accept this decision. It's not easy for me either but her stubbornness will not change anything. I already fixed the wedding and are not going to change that” he lam
ented and left the room for both of them.
