unexpected guest

Zara stepped out of the taxi, heels clicking on the marble driveway of her family home. Her heart thumped—she hadn’t been here in months. The familiar scent of jasmine still lingered in the garden. As she approached the door, it swung open, and there he stood. Akin. Her arranged husband. Wearing a simple polo and jeans, barefoot, and holding a book, he looked annoyingly… cute. “What are you doing here?” she asked, pushing past him. He followed, calm as ever. “I live here now. Your mum insisted. Said we need to bond.” Zara groaned. “Of course she did.” He smiled. “Relax. I stay in the guest room. I cook, clean, and stay out of your way.” “Perfect,” she snapped, dropping her bags. Later that evening, she sat in the living room scrolling her phone when the aroma of jollof rice wafted in. Her stomach betrayed her with a loud growl. “Want some?” he asked from the kitchen. She rolled her eyes but stood anyway. “Only because I’m starving.” Their eyes met. Something soft passed between them. But Zara shook it off. This was temporary. She had a boyfriend. And Akin was definitely not her type.
