chapter 3 The vampires warning

785 Words
Olivia sat at her desk, frozen. The man no, the vampire had just walked into Adam’s office like he belonged there. He had said her name with a calm voice, but it chilled her to the bone. She hadn’t told him her name. Not ever. So how did he know? For a moment, she thought about going after him. But something inside her told her to stay still. Her instincts whispered one word. “Danger”. She waited in silence, watching the office door. Minutes passed. The office was too quiet. Then, just as quickly as he had arrived, the door opened. The vampire stepped out again. His eyes locked onto hers. “Don’t be afraid of your dreams,” he said softly. “They’re showing you the truth.” Before she could respond, he walked away and disappeared into the elevator. Olivia sat back, her hands trembling. What is the truth? The rest of the day passed in a blur. Her hands moved across the keyboard. She picked up the phone. She filed reports. But she wasn’t really there. She was somewhere else in a forest filled with wolves. In dreams where voices whispered secrets she didn’t understand. In Adam’s cold eyes. And Scoot’s haunting words. She didn’t even know his name yet. But something about him, his presence, his stillness, the way he spoke made her feel like he’d been watching her for years. And now he was talking to her like she was part of something she didn’t even know existed. ****** That night, Olivia walked home instead of taking the bus. The cool air helped her think. The streetlights buzzed softly above her. Cars rushed by, but she kept her pace steady. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Adam. She saw the red eyed man And she heard the wolf howl from her dream. At home, she sat on her bed with a cup of tea, staring out the window. Her apartment was small but quiet. Safe. She needed that. But even here, the feeling of being watched didn’t go away. She stood up and pulled the curtain shut, heart racing. “I’m being paranoid,” she muttered. But deep down, she wasn’t so sure. Then she went to bed. ***** The next morning, Olivia arrived at work early. She hoped the quiet would calm her nerves. She wasn’t expecting anyone to be there yet. But Adam was. He was standing in front of her desk, looking out the large office window. The sun was barely rising, casting a soft gold glow across his face. She stopped in the doorway. He didn’t turn. “Good morning,” she said carefully. He didn’t answer right away. Then finally, he said, “You spoke with him.” Her breath caught. “You mean the man from yesterday?” His jaw tightened “his name is scott” Olivia walked to her desk slowly. “Who is he?” Adam turned to face her. His eyes looked tired. Older. “He’s... complicated.” “That’s not an answer,” she whispered. Adam stepped closer, just a few feet from her now. His voice was low. “He’s my mate.” Her heart skipped. “What?” “I didn’t choose him,” Adam continued. “The bond... it just happened. Years ago.” Olivia stared at him. “I didn’t even know you. ” she stopped, unsure what she was about to say. He gave a dry, humorless smile. “That I wasn’t just a CEO? That I wasn’t human?” Her mouth went dry. “Are you?” He didn’t answer. That silence told her everything. “Why did he talk to me?” she asked. “Because he sees things others don’t,” Adam said. “He’s always known you were... different.” She frowned. “I’m not different. I’m just a girl who had a bad childhood and a boring job.” Adam stepped closer. There was something in his eyes. Something that looked almost like pain. “You’re not just a girl, Olivia.” Her chest tightened. “Then what am I?” He looked away. Then, without another word, he walked past her and shut the door to his office. The rest of the day was heavy. Olivia kept hearing his words. You’re not just a girl. She didn’t know what it meant. But something inside her was waking up like an old memory buried under years of fear and silence. And then there was Scoot. She couldn’t forget his voice. His words. Don’t be afraid of your dreams. That night, Olivia had no dreams at all. Just silence. And somehow, that scared her even more.
