He also turned. “Uh huh. And?” I crossed my arms over my chest, all proud-as-a-peacock-like. “And a football field needs to be mowed, right?” It took him a minute, but he got where I was going with it. “And a mower needs gasoline. Brilliant! I must have the smartest girl-boyfriend on the planet.” I nodded, then shrugged. “Or possibly the only girl-boyfriend left on the planet, but I’ll take what I can get.” And wouldn’t you know it, but not thirty minutes later, we’d returned to town with a garbage can full of archery bows and arrows and gasoline and rags. Then all we had to do was find the others, which wasn’t as hard as expected. Steve and Kit were coming from the opposite direction, backpacks flung over their shoulders, whatever it was they were searching for also apparently found.
