CHAPTER ELEVEN SMALL MIRACLES With the rifles aimed their way, we untied our prisoners and allowed them a quick potty and meal break. Then we dressed them in the stolen scrubs and tied them back up. The uniforms, for now, we kept. Just in case. And since it was late, we shut the lights off down there and wished them a pleasant nighty-night—with Creature standing guard, of course. “Max and I will take aisle one and the general’s papers,” I announced once we were back upstairs. “Steve and Kit take aisle two along with the papers they grabbed.” “What about me?” asked Blondella as she teetered from side to side. I smiled and patted her shoulder. “Girl, you’ve done enough already.” “Tell me about it,” she said, wobbling toward aisle three. Then we found two flashlights and some batteries
