Ryan Vander stepped into Vander’s Corp. The moment he crossed the threshold, the atmosphere shifted. Conversations died mid-sentence. The faint hum of activity faded into silence. All eyes turned toward him. Workers paused, watching their president move with quiet authority. His expression was unreadable, his steps steady as he headed straight for the elevator. No one dared speak. The doors slid open. He stepped in. Silence lingered. His office door shut behind him. Ryan barely made it two steps before slamming his hand against the desk. Frustration burned through him. Before he could gather his thoughts, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen. Father. Ryan exhaled, then answered. “Ryan,” his father’s voice came, calm but commanding. “I need you to come home. Now.” Ryan frowned slightly. “I just got to the company.” “Come anyway.” The line went dead. Minutes later, Ryan walked out again. The same eyes followed him—this time filled with confusion. Whispers stirred quietly as workers watched their president leave just as suddenly as he had arrived. Ryan ignored them. The drive to the family villa was silent. By the time he arrived, his father was already waiting. Mr. Vander sat with composed authority, as if he had all the time in the world. “Sit,” he said. Ryan did. “There’s a bidding at Crest Point,” his father began. “We must win it.” Ryan leaned back slightly, listening. “The Vander name does not lose,” his father continued. “We maintain our legacy. Our dominance.” Ryan nodded once. “We’ll win.” A pause. Ryan narrowed his eyes slightly. “You made me leave work for this?” His father chuckled softly. “No.” Ryan stilled. “Someone is coming,” Mr. Vander said. “And I want you here to meet them.” Ryan frowned. “Who?” His father only smiled. “You’ll see.” Rosette Monroe sat behind her desk, flipping through a stack of documents, her expression focused and unreadable. A knock came—then the door opened without waiting for permission. Dominic Blackwell walked in. Rosette looked up, surprise flashing briefly across her face. “Dominic?” He waved casually and dropped into the chair opposite her like he owned the place. “Well,” he said with a grin, “I just got back… and you were the first person that crossed my mind.” A faint blush touched Rosette’s cheeks. “Stop it, Dominic. Stop trying to make me fluster.” He laughed, unfazed. Dominic stood and walked over to her side, leaning slightly to glance at the documents in her hand. “Huh… you’re also looking into the Crest Point bidding?” He tilted his head. “Honestly, it’s kind of suspicious. The Vanders win every year? Feels rigged to me.” Rosette shook her head. “No. The Everett family organizes it. They’re known for integrity. I doubt they’d stoop that low.” Dominic turned to look at her—really look at her. Then he smiled faintly. “You’re always like this… so naive.” Rosette’s brows furrowed. “What do you mean?” His voice dropped slightly. “People see you as sweet. Innocent.” A pause. “But I know better.” He leaned closer. “You’re the only one I know who can smile like an angel… and still be absolutely dangerous underneath.” The air changed instantly. Rosette’s eyes went cold. Sharp. Unforgiving. Dominic froze, then quickly raised his hands. “Hey—sorry. That came out wrong.” Silence. Rosette’s voice, when she spoke, was icy. “What exactly are you doing here, Dominic?” He exhaled, running a hand through his hair. “My father wants me to get married.” Rosette’s eyes narrowed slightly. “And?” “I came to find a wife.” A pause. “Rosette… marry me.” She blinked. Then laughed. “Marry you? No way.” Her tone turned firm. “You’re taking it too far, Dominic.” He didn’t back down. “You’re my childhood friend. You’re the only person I can think of who fits.” Rosette met his gaze, steady and unyielding. “Friends,” she said. “Not lovers. Never.” A beat. “You’re a good person, Dominic… but you’re not my type.” He smiled faintly, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “That… hurts.” “It should,” she replied calmly. Then she gestured to the door. “I’m busy.” Dominic stood there for a moment longer, studying her. Then he turned and walked out. The door closed. Silence. Rosette leaned back in her chair, rubbing her temples slowly. For a moment, her composure cracked. Then— Ryan Vander. The name crossed her mind. Her expression darkened instantly. “…Damn it.”
