IRENE POV.
“Urgghhhh..” I laid flat on the couch and sighed in frustration. I was bored to death. “You know how much I hate being idle. I’m dying of boredom indoor Constanza. Helpppp.” I said in a whiny tone as I threw my feet in the air.
A week after quitting my job, I haven’t been able to get another one. I tried, trust me, I did. I went to a couple of companies with my perfect resume. Anyone would be happy to hire me when they see the number of accomplishments I’ve gathered over a couple of my working years, but unfortunately, I didn’t get the job, and you know why, it’s all because of that freaking perverted old man My boss, sorry ex-boss.
That freaking son of a thousand father apparently sent my pictures around and sent a really bad review about me, completely tarnishing my image. So no one was going to hire me.
Although they all applauded my resumé and were quite amazed by it, they didn’t hire me because they were also scared that the bad review the bastard posted was going to affect their company in a way.
That dirty old man really ruined my chances of getting another job. No one wants to hire me. I can sit at home for the rest of my life, I just can’t. I need to work.
“I really can’t believe your boss did that IJ!” Constanza said, her voice coming out sympathetically through the phone.
“Ex Connie, ex-boss.” I corrected firmly and rolled my eyes, mentally reminding myself that she could see me.
“Sorry, ex-boss. That’s very unethical. You know you could sue him for what he did, and then you could get him to pay the fine, you know, get some money from him.”
“Yeah right, like I could actually afford the luxury to sue the old man,” I responded gruffly
“I'm going to handle it, Irene, you don't have to worry,” Connie responded.
“Connie I appreciate what you are doing for me, really, I do, but I would much rather prefer you spend your quality money and time with the homeless than sitting in a room with that disgusting p*****t. I'm not interested in suing him, I just want a new job. That's all I want and need right now” I finished then sighed heavily.
“Come work with me then, you could be my new assistant.” she offered.
“So I could be the reason for firing Leticia when she's done nothing wrong, no, please. I can't take someone else's job, Connie.” I shook my head.
“Alright girlfriend, I'm going to be on the lookout for you. I have to go now.”
“Thanks, friend, love you,” I said then hung up.
I threw my phone on the sofa then exhaled heavily. I can’t wait forever, I need a job. I don’t care what kind, I just need to work.
It was evident that I wouldn’t be able to get a job at any company because of the bad review, but I can get a job at a restaurant, a bar, or even a nightclub, anyone. So I got up from the sofa and made my way to the bathroom to take my bath and then put on some clean clothes, styled my hair then grabbed my purse and phone from the bed, and gave myself one last look in the mirror. My blue jeans hugged my thick thighs tightly with the black armless top and a denim jacket. I looked ready to face any challenge today.
“Time to go job hunting,” I muttered to myself and inhaled deeply then walked out the door.
I boarded a taxi to my first location and met with the manager but unfortunately, they were not hiring. Same as the second, and the third, and also the fourth. The fifth was the same as my old boss, he demanded I sleep with him before he gives me a job at his restaurant.
“Go suck a dïck you shithead” I snapped at him then spat on his face before storming out of his office and out the restaurant.
“What’s wrong with these men? Did he think I was going to sleep with him just so he could give me a job? I’m not that desperate.” I grumbled in annoyance as I walked.
The sun was really hot and I was getting tired so I stopped by an ice cream truck and bought ice cream to cool the hotness. As soon as I was done with the ice cream, I continued my job hunt. I was very determined to get a job today. I couldn’t spend another day idle in the house, I just couldn’t. I could loose my mind.
I’ve been to different diners, coffee shops, and restaurants but none of them would hire me, so I thought about trying something else out.
I stared at the big bar sitting on the sidewalk and standing in front of me, then took off my jacket and inhaled then exhaled deeply as I walked into the bar slowly and quietly. It was empty and quiet, seeing as it was a bar and only operates at night.
I walked in gently and looked around, trying to find the manager’s office.
“Hello... Hello, is anybody here.” I called out, my voice echoing in the room. It was really creepy and sent an eerie feeling down my spine. I walked further in and continued to call out, hoping someone would answer me. There had to be someone around since it was opened.
I held my bag tightly as I looked around, my heart beat ing loud in my ear.
“We don’t open till seven pm.” A deep voice said from behind the counter.
I flinched abruptly at the eeriness of the voice as my heart began to thump frantically.
“Hello,” I called out again and moved a step closer to the counter...
“How can I help you?” The voice said as his hair came to view and then his entire body.
“Hi.. Hello.” I stammered nervously.
“How can I help you?” He repeated again, word by word, his silver like eyes piercing into mine as he came out from behind the counter.
He stood in from of me and rested his back against the counter.
I cleared my throat and tried forming a coherent sentence this time around, “Is the manager around please?” I asked.
“Yes he is.” He responded , his voice deeper than before
“Is there a way I could see him,I kinda need to talk to him” I asked again.
“You’re talking to him already.” He replied curtly.
“Excuse me.” I questioned in confusion.
“I am the owner of this place.” He said firmly.
Oh wow!!
I looked at him with a confused shocked expression oh my face, my eyes trailing from his toe to his face. I would’ve never even imagined him to be the owner of this big bar. He just looks young, and hot.
I did not just call him hot. Oh my gosh I did, whatever. He’s hot!!
He looked like he was in his late twenties.
He dipped his hand into his pocket and stood intimidatingly in front of me with his 5’11 height, his eyes asking me the obvious question.
Oh s**t! I totally forgot why I was here.
I cleared my throat and gulped down my nervousness, “Hi uhmm.. I saw the hiring sign outside and decided to ask about it.”
“Ohhh..” he mouthed, a weird expression flashing across his face. “I’m very sorry but we already hired someone for the position. I forgot to take out the sign board.” He said, trying as much as he could to make his deep voice come out soft.
“Owwww...” I drawled. My heart shattering at the news as a look of disappointment and sadness crawled up my face. I was beginning to get tired of everyone telling me they weren’t hiring or I couldn’t do the job and all sort of things I’ve heard today.
I heaved a heavy sigh looked down at the floor then looked up at him in disappointment.
“Alright then, thank you” I said in a low voice and flashed a sad smile which I’m sure he notice. “Have a nice day” I added before turning around to walk out of the bar.
“Actually...” he said and I turned around to face him. “We could actually use another hand. I mean, it won’t hurt to hire an extra person.”
“Oh my gosh, I’d really appreciate it if you do.” I said with puppy dog eyes.
“Do you have any idea how to mix drinks?” He asked.
“Yes I do. I worked at a bar in the United Kingdom for a year.” I replied immediately.
“Hmmmm..” he nodded his head slowly and crossed his hands across his chest.
“Alright then. When would you like to start?” He asked me.
“As soon as possible. I’m ready to work.” I said enthusiastically.
“Okayy. You can start tonight then. Eight pm sharp.”
I smiled widely. “I’ll be here. Thank you. Thank you so much” I nodded in enthusiasm then turned around and made my way out of the bar.
Finally! I was able to get a job.
