A Love Found in the City

Chapter 7: Love in the Time of Distance

Emily and Nick had been together for several months now, and their love had only grown stronger. They were now in a long-distance relationship since Nick had to move back to his hometown to take care of his ailing mother. Emily was sad to see him go, but she knew that their relationship was strong enough to withstand the distance.

The first few weeks were rough for Emily, and she missed Nick terribly. They were only able to keep in touch through phone calls and video chats. Emily tried to keep busy with her work and hobbies to take her mind off Nick. But, no matter how busy she was, she missed his presence in her life.

One day, on a particularly tough day, Emily received a package from Nick. Her heart skipped a beat as she opened it to find a handwritten letter, a bouquet of flowers, and a necklace. Emily read the letter, feeling tears well up in her eyes. Nick had written about how much he missed her and how he would always cherish their love.

The necklace was a charm with Emily's initial engraved on it. Nick had written that he wanted her to wear it whenever she missed him, and it would remind her of his love. Emily was moved by the gesture and felt grateful for Nick's love.

As time passed, Emily and Nick's love continued to thrive. They would make the effort to calls each other every day and planned visits whenever they could. Emily would sometimes send Nick care packages, sending him things that would remind him of her love.

One day, Nick surprised Emily by showing up at her doorstep. Emily couldn't believe her eyes as she saw Nick standing outside her house. She ran up to him, and he scooped her up into a tight embrace.

"I missed you," Nick whispered into Emily's ear.

"I missed you too," Emily replied, feeling grateful and happy.

Nick had planned a surprise weekend away for the two of them. They went to a mountain resort, where they spent their days exploring the mountains and their nights snuggled up by the fireplace. Emily felt like she was in a dream as Nick made her feel special and loved.

As they were walking in the mountains one day, Nick stopped and took Emily's hand. He pulled her around to face him, and they looked into each other's eyes.

"Emily, I love you, and I know that it's crazy, but I want to spend the rest of my life with you," Nick said, getting down on one knee.

Emily couldn't believe what was happening. She was in shock as Nick brought out a beautiful diamond ring.

"Will you marry me?" Nick asked, looking up at Emily.

Emily nodded her head, her heart bursting with love and joy. She took Nick's hand and helped him stand up as they embraced each other.

As they stood there, overlooking the mountains, Emily felt like this was a moment she would never forget. She knew that Nick's love was the one thing she could always count on, no matter what. She was grateful to have found someone who understood her and who was willing to take the risk on love, no matter what challenges they might face.
