Packing up

1885 Words
Well, we are almost to my house. Evan texted me at 6am and said my parents were gone. I looked at f*******: and they had made their vacation driving posts. This morning we went to breakfast at a really good little cafe near the hotel that I normally go to when I come to the city. They liked it. I almost died this morning when I got up because I tripped over Connor's foot and thought I had broken my pinkie. I caught myself on the tv stand and my pinkie made a cracking noise and is currently swollen and a little purple. So I grabbed tape out of Marie's truck, I may of put it there, and taped my pinkie to my ring finger. It's my right pinkie, which is fine. I'm left-handed for 90% of things. Connor slept through that whole escapade. Actually, everyone was asleep during that whole thing so they all looked at me when I taped my fingers together. And were shocked when they saw what it looked like. "So, we're in a neighborhood. Is one of these yours?" Marie asked "Yeah I just drove past it" I said looking at her "Hey, I don't need the sarcasm" She laughed "I smiled at her and put the blinker on. I turned towards the house across the street and backed into my driveway. It's a four car driveway so their dad did the same thing parked right next to me. Hoping out, I pulled my house key from the glove box and walked up to the door. "Such a cute house" Marie said "Yeah, this is where I grew up, well mostly. We moved here when I was..five. I lived in a different house like 3 hours away before that. But they wanted to be closer to family so, this is where they moved." I said They all nodded and we walked in the house. Showing them the main rooms and the bathroom, I walked to my room and opened the door. Ah, just how I left it. Good. "Aw this is your room" Connor said "Yeah" I laughed "Should we do big things first?" Their dad asked "Probably, uhm. I think that ottoman is the biggest cause it's long and holds my collection of Mexican blankets" I laughed "Mexican blankets?" Their mom asked "Isn't that what we got in New Mexico" Marie said "Yes. I have like five more here" I smiled Opening the ottoman, I showed them the blankets. It also has regular blankets. "These are cool. Wait isn't there one in your truck?" Connor said "Yeah. That ones my favorite. My grandparents on my dad's side. They bought me one every time they drove to Vegas because they drove through New Mexico. My parents always asked them why and they said they wanted to. So I now hoard these" I laughed "I think this will just fit in the bed of the truck" Their dad laughed "I hope so" I laughed "Anything else you want to put in here?" Their mom asked "Hmm. Oh" I said and walked over to my dresser "This was my dog growing up. Honestly the only pet I ever had. I think the safest place will be in here cause it's soft" "Aw" They all said I put the wooden box of ashes on the blankets along with the collar. Then I shut the ottoman and Connor and his dad took it outside. It's a long rectangular ottoman. I've had that thing forever. "Should we bring in the suitcases. or do you not have a lot of clothes?" Marie asked "My dresser had some and there some in my closet. The two should be enough. If not we can just throw whatever is left in random containers and i'll find it when I unpack it all" I said We nodded and their mom grabbed a cardboard box as well. Coming back inside everyone was back in my room. I guess i'm directing today. "Would you like your trophies and ribbons in here hun?" Their mom asked "Sure" I nodded "Uhm. Does this say barrel racing, first place" Marie said "Yeah" I laughed "I though you said you never been to a rodeo" Connor asked "It wasn't at a rodeo. It was 4-H and at the barn I worked for. She had mini-eventing things and I barrel raced with one of their horses that hated everyone." I laughed "Wow, you won a lot" Connor said "Me and that horse got along. I think he's still there" I said "Anything else we can bring out?" Their dad asked "I mean the table that the trophies are on I would like to keep but I don't know if it'll fit" I replied "It might fit in Marie's bed if we lay it on it's side. It's a nice table. Where did you get it?" Their dad asked "I built it when I was.. I think I was 16." I said "You made this?" Marie asked "Yeah." I laughed "Oi just full of surprises" She said shaking her said I smiled and the boys helped put the trophies and ribbons in the box before taking out the table. While they were doing that, Marie and I started emptying out my dresser. We started on the bottom with pants and winter stuff and filled the first suit case. Next was underwear and bras in the next suit case. "So, you barrel raced. Think you can get Blackjack around the barrels?" Marie said "About that. I may have done that already" I laughed "Really? When?" She asked "Last week. When I had off. No one was home and I was bored" I replied "How'd he do? Cause he threw both Connor and my dad" She laughed "Really? He did his tippy taps and wanted to run with me. But I made him gallop the pattern twice then I let him go as fast as he wanted and he did pretty good" I nodded "I.. you should of taken a video cause when my dad and brother tried it was a s**t show. Next day we both have off, which is probably Sunday cause if you're all done unpacking. You're running barrels with him" Marie said "Sounds good" I laughed "Oh girl, lacy" Marie said holding up the one bra I just looked at her and shook my head. "What am I going to do with you" I laughed "You're going to wear this when we go out back home" She said "Am I now" I laughed "Well you need a man don't you" Marie said "Who needs a man" Connor said walking in "Becca" Marie said "Uhm, so do you" I laughed "I had one, but he wanted me to come to Cali" She laughed "Even worse, the city" "He was cute though" I nodded "Who are you two talking about" Marie's mom said "Marie's boy from college" I smiled "Is that the one you pointed out at graduation" Her mom asked "Who?" Connor asked "Yes" Marie said while her face turned red "Wait, slow down" Connor said "Your sister had herself a mans in college. But, he wanted her to move to California with him when they graduated" I said "You said no?" He asked "He lives in San Francisco or Los Angelos or something like that. I don't want to live there. I like living in the middle of no where" She said "Hey, there's a cop outside asking for you" Their dad said walking in "Is it a chief?" I asked "Yeah" He replied "That's the friend who spied for me" I smiled They nodded and we walked outside. He smiled and met me halfway in the grass and I gave him a hug. "Hey Evan" I said "Sup Bec" He replied "Everyone this is Evan. He's the chief of this town. Even this is my roommate and well now house mate and best friend Marie. Her brother Connor. Mother Trish and Father Rob" I said "Hello. How did you guys get roped into helping her" He laughed "We wanted to see New York" Marie smiled "Did you enjoy the city?" He asked "It was very nice" Their mom replied "How are you liking the town?" I asked "It's nice. Carly likes it" He replied "How is Carly" I asked "She's great. She wanted to come say Hi but had to go into the office today. Oh she wanted me to give you this" Evan said and walked to his car. Coming back he handed me and envelope. "It's a wedding invitation. It's in two months but if you'd like to come she'd love to see you. None of your cousins are gonna be there because we don't really talk to them anymore" "Nice" I laughed "I'll see if I can get off and let you guys know in...give me like two weeks" I laughed "Sounds good. It's okay if you can't I know it's last minute. Do you need any help?" He asked "Uhm, I think we got all the big stuff. I brought most of it when I originally left." I said "Well, it was good seeing you. Oh I got a call, guess it's a good thing you didn't need help. See you around" He said We hugged again and he ran to his cruiser and took off. He waited till he got tot he end of the block to put the lights and sirens on. Turning around everyone smiled at me. "So friends with cops?" Connor said "The chief of police" I laughed "He invited me to his wedding in two months" "Ooh" Marie smiled "Back inside" I laughed We spent the next two hours packing up the rest of my room and fitting everything into the trucks. And somehow everything fit. My pinkie also hurts, so I took some ice from the freezer and put it in a baggie, also a rag from the bathroom that is now mine and it's coming with me. Taking one last look around my room, I checked all the little hiding spots and they were all empty. If anyone is wondering, I found about $300 while we were packing, so that's now in my wallet and that doesn't include the change. Making sure the trucks were packed tight, because we are going to be driving into a storm, we hit the road and left my little town. "So, how do you feel?" Marie asked "Well my pinkie hurts. But I don't know. I'm never coming back here. Well to this house. I don't know" I laughed "I still can't believe you tripped over my foot" Connor laughed "No one heard the nice loud bang too" I said shaking my head "Why didn't you wake someone up" Marie laughed "I'm a big girl. I can take care of my injuries myself" I said "Well now we know if she falls off a horse we'll only find out when she comes limping inside" Connor said "We might see that sooner rather then later" Marie said "Why?" Connor asked "We have a test with Mr. Black Jack when we get home" Marie smiled "He was good. It'll be fine" I said Connor just looked at us and we continued with our drive. So far, blue skies, for now.
