My fingers were numb by the time I could react. I felt my eyelashes incredibly heavy, so much so that I had to wait several seconds before I could open them. In my field of vision, I saw a masculine figure approaching me and throwing something over me. The first thing I noticed was the heat of my body; I was alarmed to see green grass everywhere and I sat up abruptly.
"Cover yourself! Do it before they come!" My hands trembled, not understanding his words, unable to process his message. I slowly exhaled and squeezed my eyes shut when I felt the impending vertigo coursing through my body. "Cover yourself!"
I followed the sound of his frantic voice, he was holding a spear covered in blood and looked at me desperately. I did as he asked and covered my naked body completely. The sensation of coldness emanating from my mouth every time I breathed was strange; I was in a warm area because I had gone to the enemy's territory, that unknown village below me was now the one directly beneath my body. Still, my body on the outside was completely warm; I touched my arms, hugging and curling up on my side lying on the grass. I couldn't think clearly about what was happening; I just felt suffocated by that uncomfortable smell of that cloth over me.
Suddenly, the cloth was snatched off of me. The distressed eyes of this individual scanned me, and I felt embarrassed. The sound of a sprayer made me react.
"What are you doing?"
"If I don't do it, they'll become more insane," he pointed to the wolves running around, tearing up the earth and the trees around. He covered me again, I was still sitting, I noticed it was a coat. "Let's get out of here quickly, something strange is happening."
I looked around, and the wolves were like statues, they had stopped dead in their tracks and were looking in my direction, but they were unable to move an inch. My body trembled with fear, and I got up quickly.
"Who are you?" I questioned, waking up from the daze I was in until a few seconds ago.
"Do you really care to know that now?" He began walking in the opposite direction to mine. "If you want to survive at least tonight, you'll have to come with me."
I looked at him, unsure of what to do, these paralyzed wolves were still behind me. A deep howl made us look to the side, a gray wolf was running towards me with its teeth out, I stood still wishing to run with all my might, but I was anchored, my body didn't respond.
That man acquired his wolf form with supernatural speed, I knew he was an experienced warrior by his fierce reaction as he dug his claws into the gray wolf's neck. At that precise moment, my legs had a mind of their own.
I ran as if my life depended on it, and it did. I was in a completely unknown territory and had to return as soon as possible. However, I was so exhausted that I could barely run. The moon was beginning to hide behind the clouds, which meant the wolves' vision would improve greatly. Fortunately, I had the neutralizer, but it wouldn't be very effective if I was in heat.
I stopped, leaning against a tree, gasping for air, and I could rationalize better. That would mean I had turned 18.
I tried to catch my breath as normally as possible, but anxiety was making me hyperventilate. My chest rose and fell incessantly.
I touched my bare legs, feeling my skin burning, the sweat was causing the neutralizer to lose its effect; even I could smell my own scent, and I was getting dizzy. I needed to find a place to hide or I would soon be wolf food. It wasn't supposed to be like this; I never read anything like this in books, and I was too confused and disoriented to devise a plan to get back home.
"Alpha..." I called out, but it was futile. I couldn't feel him. That made me feel a sense of relief. The reality hit when heavy footsteps approached quickly towards where I was, I didn't have time to turn around. My lips were covered by a large hand, in the darkness, the scent was very subtle, but I got my doubts cleared when he spoke from behind.
"Don't run like that," he released me gradually and turned me towards him. "You're not from here, are you?" With nerves on edge, I twisted trying to move away from his touch.
"It's none of your business," I looked at him seriously, the moon had cleared up again. My abdomen was horribly painful, but I concealed it well.
"What's a white-haired omega doing in the red zone? Plus, you're in heat. If I didn't have my own bond, I wouldn't be talking to you." He handed me some capsules and waited for me to take them.
"How do I know I can trust you?" He stepped back a bit and turned away.
"You don't have to if you don't want to, but for now, you don't have many options. Now cover yourself well and swallow the pill, it lasts longer than the spray." I looked at the strange object in my hands, it was round and transparent, they looked like water capsules. I sighed resignedly and swallowed it; it scraped down my throat harshly, and I wrinkled my face. I buttoned up the coat.
"Done," I sighed, feeling relief slowly spreading through my body. "What was that capsule?"
"Liquid suppressor, the shamans made it for emergencies like these," I furrowed my brow, confused.
"Are there warrior omegas?" He looked at me inquisitively. While he thought I wasn't from there, it didn't specifically mean that I wasn't from his pack. I had messed up. "I mean... why would you have that? You're an alpha."
"Even so, look at your situation," he replied. "It's better if we leave soon; your scent is still noticeable. It's all because of the blood moon tonight, let's go somewhere else."
"What's your name? At least we should know that about each other," I said curiously, the heat of my body was decreasing more and more.
"I'm Nick," I stopped to look at him, but the shadow didn't give me many details. "And you are...?"
"Samantha..." I said unsure if I was doing the right thing.
"Very well, Samantha. Let's go to a safer place, okay?" He smiled in my direction, trying to reassure me.
I bit my lower lip and felt a slight burning, a sign that I must have wounds; he would inspect me later.
"Sure..." I thought, "for now."
We took two steps and a deafening scream made me jump. A man with a silver spear was inches from my face, about to stab it right between my eyes.
