Chapter 6 Return to the Family

1060 Words
Mandy's phone rang. Glancing at the screen, she pulled out a wet wipe and cleaned her hands. She knew the Cox family would make a move when Bailey's people sneakily followed her. It had been barely an hour since then, indicating their palpable anxiety. They seemed terrified that she might lure away the prized son-in-law they had recently welcomed. The call was from Wayne. As soon as Mandy answered, she heard him questioning, "Where are you?" "Is something the matter?" Mandy replied casually. Wayne was a little dissatisfied, his tone stern. "I'm your father. Is it wrong for me to call and show some concern for you?" Thinking of something, he cleared his throat. "Come home tomorrow. I have something to tell you." "Okay." Mandy agreed, ending the call without further ado. She tossed the phone aside, looked up, and met Iris's curious face. Nonchalantly, she said, "They're getting desperate. They're planning to make things difficult for me." ***** The next evening, Mandy stood in front of the villa and waited for almost ten minutes. When she saw the Bentley appear, her lips curled up, and she walked over with her bag gracefully. The timing was perfect. When she stopped, the man in the car happened to get out as well. Mandy stood in front of Bruno and waved at him. "Hi, hubby." Today, she was wearing a black off-the-shoulder dress and a pair of high heels of the same color. The end of her hair had a half wave, and with her delicate makeup, she looked even more like a fairy. She was a dark fairy, the kind that specifically absorbed people's essence. Bruno was left speechless. Bailey came out of the villa. Seeing this scene, her eyes narrowed, and she immediately walked quickly to Bruno's side, holding his arm as if declaring her sovereignty. "Bruno, here you are." After that, she looked at Mandy again, with a fake smile on her face. "Mandy, you're finally back." "Why are you so late? Dad has been waiting for you for a long time. Let's go in." Mandy looked at Bailey's clumsy performance and smiled. Immediately, she looked at Bruno and said coquettishly, "It's all your fault. You made me unable to get out of bed all day, so I'm late." The surrounding air suddenly became quiet. Bailey's gentle and friendly mask almost shattered in an instant. She couldn't wait to rush up and tear Mandy apart. Mandy nonchalantly glanced over her and stopped at Bruno's face. Bruno's eyebrows were cold, and he glanced at her indifferently, then said to Bailey, who was beside him, "Let's go." Just two words showed his stance. Bailey immediately straightened up, looking at Mandy triumphantly, and walked towards the courtyard with Bruno's arm in hers. Mandy smiled indifferently, brushed her hair, and followed behind them in her high heels. As soon as the door opened, Mandy heard Wayne's flattering and enthusiastic voice. "Bruno, you're here. Come in quickly." Bruno nodded slightly. His attitude was polite but somewhat distant. Mandy smiled, enjoying the show. After seeing Mandy, the enthusiasm in Wayne's eyes faded, replaced with seriousness and solemnity. "You're back." Mandy smiled charmingly and looked past Wayne at Scarlett behind him. "Yes. I haven't been back for so many years. I've almost forgotten what the villa my grandfather left me looks like." With just one sentence, Mandy made both Wayne's and Scarlett's faces change. Scarlett quickly smiled and stepped forward to greet Mandy affectionately. "Yeah, it's been so many years since you ran away from home in a fit of anger. Manda, how have you been all these years? Have you found a boyfriend?" Mandy glanced in Bruno's direction, her ambiguous gaze like a hook. "I don't have a boyfriend for the time being, but I do have a candidate for a future husband." Mandy stared at Bruno unabashedly as she said these words. Bailey was so angry that her teeth were about to shatter. However, in order to maintain her ladylike image in front of Bruno, she endured it and did not say anything. Scarlett was indeed old and cunning. As if she didn't see Mandy's eyes and hints, she still smiled and said, "What kind of person do you like, Manda? I'll ask your father to keep an eye out for you. Wayne, didn't Mr. Vasquez get divorced recently? I think he's pretty good. He's older and knows how to take care of people." Mandy played with her nails and nudged Wayne with her chin. "Did you hear that? Since he's such a good person, hurry up and introduce him to Bailey." Wayne's face darkened. He glanced at Bruno from the corner of his eye, then turned to Mandy and scolded, "What nonsense are you talking about? How could Bailey, a pure and innocent girl, marry a divorced man? Don't think too highly of yourself, just because you??" At this point, he suddenly stopped. After all, he shouldn??t air his dirty laundry in public. Bruno was still present. If he knew about the scandal from back then, it might affect his impression of Bailey. No one noticed that a glint of darkness flashed across Bruno's eyes. ***** At the dining table, Bailey and Bruno sat in a row, gently and considerately picking up food for him. When Wayne saw this, he smiled and said, "Having a grown-up daughter is a worry. Bruno, Bailey's eyes are glued to you." Scarlett echoed, "That's right. I've never seen her be so into anyone." Bailey blushed slightly and lowered her head. "Dad, Mom, don't make fun of me." Wayne chuckled. "Look, now she's shy." Mandy drank her soup slowly, watching the three of them perform in front of her. Even before she returned, she had sensed that this dinner was a setup. Wayne calling her to dinner was a lie. Giving her a warning and warning her not to have any ideas about Bruno was the truth. Mandy looked down under the table, took off her slippers, raised her calf, and touched Bruno's suit pants leg with her toes little by little. The spoon in her hand never left her hand. She casually raised her eyes and saw that Bruno was looking at her. Her foot continued to move up, her legs were long, almost touching his thigh. Mandy moved forward slightly, her foot reaching between his legs.
